Green Lantern Gladiator Games and the Death of Memes

This week in the world of cartoons, Hal Jordan steps into a gladiatorial arena to win the love of a princess, the denizens of South Park attack internet memes, DC takes a jab at Spider-man on Young Justice, and the ponies enter the world of blind item journalism. Really.

Minor spoilers ahead!

Green Lantern: TAS – "Heir Apparent"

Hal Jordan, interstellar man of action, enters in to the world of gladiatorial combat in order to win the heart of an alien princess. This clip shows Hal (blue armor) fighting in the arena without his GL powers, while Kilowog becomes the target of espionage.

Young Justice – "Insecurity"

Comic book legend Peter David penned this episode, centering on the arrival of Red Arrow. Artemis is NOT happy, as Red Arrow's arrival is a blatant violation of the ancient rule forbidding redundant powers on super-hero teams. This clip doesn't spotlight Red Arrow - I picked it due to the super creepy DC depiction of Marvel's favorite wall crawler.

DC Nation Shorts – "New Teen Titans & Plastic Man"

Beast Boy stars in the New Teen Titans short Streams of Consciousness, with his fellow Titans taunting him over the hot cookie he really wants to eat. I'm pulling for a Beast Boy spin-off.

The second clip is from last week's collection of DC Nation shorts. Plastic Man in... The Many and the Fowl gives us a glimpse into a day in the life of the criminal turned crime fighter, with this clip showing a battle with Lady Granite.

Marvel Anime: Blade – "The Last Sunset"

Deacon Frost gets his hands on a sample of Blade's blood before the Daywalker is rescued. Frost leaves for the safety of Armoroad and starts tinkering with Blade's blood to create the perfect vampire.

Transformers Prime – "Crossfire"

Insecticons! One of my favorite old-school Transformer variations makes an appearance in this episode, as Starscream and Airachnid pursue a rogue Insecticon that arrives on Earth. This clip (it's a bit jumpy) shows Starscream being his normal congenial self.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic – "Ponyville Confidential"

In this episode, the Cutie Mark Crusaders delve into the private lives of their fellow Ponyville denizens to fill up the gossip column of the school newspaper.

Thundercats – "The Trials of Lion-O (Part 1)"

This episode aired in Ireland earlier in 2012, but makes its North American debut this week. Lion-O is falls to his death, but he is confronted with a series of trials after he is given a second chance at life. These trials force Lion-O to battle Kit, Kat, and Cheetara - his fellow Thundercats.

South Park – "Faith Hilling"

Memes are dead. After the boys of South Park go "Faith Hilling" at a Republican Presidential Debate, another group of children start a new meme ("Taylor Swifting"), only to learn that cats have evolved to create their own memes.
