Besides the inevitable Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Avengers sequels, what movies is Marvel working on now? A new rumor claims that our favorite Wakandan chieftain, Black Panther, could be starring in his own big-screen venture very soon.
Latino Review claims to have confirmation of this from four different sources. Mark Bailey has written a script, that sources say is "fantastic."
Can Marvel make T'Challa work for a 21st century audience? Let's hope so — the recent animated series (above) was pretty decent, and there's a lot to work with here. T'Challa comes from Wakanda, the most technologically advanced country in the world, which still retains all of its ancient traditions. Thanks to its rich supply of the super-metal Vibranium, Wakanda is a powerful country that's resisted contamination by European and American culture and interests. But its leader, T'Challa, still finds reasons to go to the United States, and even to join up with the Avengers.
The gold standard for Black Panther was Priest's run on the title, especially the first dozen or so issues. Let's hope Marvel's movie can retain a lot of the freshness and coolness Priest brought to the character — assuming this rumor is actually true, of course. [Latino Review]
