The Amazing Spider-Man

Star Andrew Garfield explains why Spider-Man is an inspiration to skinny kids everywhere, himself included, and how he wanted to keep that aspect of the character in the movie:

"He's a symbol of hope and I was a skinny kid and I still am a skinny kid. I wanted to have more power. I felt like I was born into the wrong body and I should have been stronger and bigger. I saw him as an idealist. I was an idealistic kid as well, so whenever I saw an injustice I wanted to do something, I didn't have the authority or power to do it and I'd usually get my teeth kicked in. [The character is able] to reach his hand out and grab the viewer's hand and like, ‘Hey, you're not alone,' Spider-Man was that for me. I wanted to stay skinny because that's a much greater fantasy. A skinny guy beating the crap out of big guys is what I want to see. We all know that Jason Statham can beat the crap out of people, but there's no surprise and there's nothing thrilling about that to me. But, what is thrilling is when you see someone who looks like he is going to get blown over by the wind really surprising a bunch of mean, big [expletives]."

Mad Max: Fury Road

George Miller's long-delayed fourth Mad Max movie — in which Tom Hardy takes over for Mel Gibson in the title role - is set to finally begin filming in the extremely near future. So near, in fact, that costar Charlize Theron has already gone ahead and shaved her head and/or just cut her hair really short. [Shock Till You Drop]

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Director Timur Bekmambetov discusses just what role vampires play in this film:

"Vampires in our movie they are very violent. They are mean and violent, but as human beings, because we are not good either, they represent us. It's not different-it's not a creature. They have human qualities. They have tragic back stories. Vampirism is just a physical manifestation of our problems or our class... This movie is about freedom and Lincoln gave us freedom. He held us to be free and the vampires, they have their own understanding what freedom is because they just live much longer and they feel they are a superior race and they have their own understanding-who has the power of course has to rule the world."

Noah

Ray Winstone, who has proven in everything from Beowulf to The Departed that he's one the most intimidatingly badass actors currently working (not so much when he was Mr. Beaver in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe), has reportedly been offered the role of the main villain — other than the Flood, obviously — in Darren Aronofsky's reimagining of the Bible epic. Winstone reportedly beat out the likes of Val Kilmer and Liev Schrieber for the role, and he was reportedly chosen because he's one of the few actors who could actually look physically imposing next to star Russell Crowe. Methuselah

Speaking of Biblical reimaginings, Woman in Black director James Watkins and Harry Potter producer David Heyman are reportedly working on this movie about a 1,000-year-old man who is rather naturally the world's most impressive survival expert. Arash Amel, who previously worked on the script for the I Am Legend sequel, has reportedly been brought in to do a page one rewrite of the script. [Variety]

Only Lovers Left Alive

Star Trek and Fright Night star Anton Yelchin has reportedly joined Broken Flowers director Jim Jarmusch's new movie, which is about a centuries-spanning romance between two vampires. The film also stars such heavyweights as Tom Hiddleston, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, and Mia Wasikowska. [Deadline]

Dark Skies

Legion and Priest director Scott Stewart is teaming up with the producers of Paranormal Activity and Insidious on his latest genre project. Here's the early synopsis:

"A psychological thriller about a suburban couple whose lives become a nightmare when a terrifying alien presence enters their home each night to prey upon their children. Increasingly isolated from skeptical friends and neighbors, the couple is forced to take matters into their own hands to save their family."

"Jason's going to be lucky to survive. In fact, he may not survive this season. It's been a rather brutal season for Jason."

Cougar Town actress Carolyn Hennessy discusses her role as part of the Vampire Authority:

"We are really trying to decide the fate of vampires all over the world: mainstreaming versus non-mainstreaming. The buck stops with us and there are those interested in following one path and those interested in another, so there's some definite in-fighting between us."

Supernatural

Rick Worthy, best known as the Cylon unit known as Simon on Battlestar Galactica, discusses the identity of his character the Alpha Vampire and what to expect in season eight next fall:

I know his name….his real true name. It's a very, very long name and he comes from royal ancestry. So the way he eats and talks…everything about him is regal. And I hope there's a chance for his name to come out. It will have to be totally worked out with the writers and producers. That is building an independent character with last and final secrets. They have a lot of secrets, and that's probably one of the biggest ones because it's the key to his origin… where he comes from.

So if the character continues on the series, how would you expect him to evolve? Do you have any direction specifically that you'd like to see him go in?
Yeah, I think there's been a couple of times when he said he has unfinished business with the Winchesters. And there's a conflict that needs to happen between him and the two brothers, but I think there's also a bigger conflict that needs to happen, as well. There is a war coming, I believe, and hopefully he's going to be part of it. Whose side he is going to be on, I think, is crucial to the survival of his character. So it may be that he makes some kind of an alliance with the Winchesters. But it's the kind of an alliance that has a lot of gray in between. You know he can't quite trust them, but you know they need him. So that's why when I read the script [for] "There Will be Blood," I was like, "okay this is going to go down." This script is really written well because he reluctantly gives up his blood to help them out. He doesn't just give it to them. There has to be a bit of a showdown first, and then he decides that, "okay, I'll help rescue you." It was so well written because it takes a lot for him to give up his blood. So if and when he comes back in season eight, I would love to try to continue along those lines were he'd like to help the Winchesters but he's not just giving up easily.

Being Human (US)

Syfy has put out a press releasing announcing that filming has begun on season three in Montreal. Here are some details on what to expect from the new season:

As the new season unfolds, Aidan resurfaces from being "grounded" and finds the vampire community vastly changed; he must find a new approach to feeding that will change his life forever. Kristen Hager, who recurred throughout the first 2 seasons of Being Human playing Josh's (Sam Huntington) girlfriend Nora, will return this season as a regular series cast member. Nora, it was revealed in the Season 2 opener, had been turned into a werewolf by Josh and plays a significant role in the drama's tense Season 2 cliffhanger.

The Vampire Diaries

Showrunner Julie Plec discusses Bonnie's decision to help transfer Klaus into Tyler's body:

"This is Bonnie's ‘I am witch woman, hear me roar' moment. She went and made a decision that she felt was best for the people that she loved, consequences be damned. Bonnie is the true hero in all of this, if you really look at it. She came in and found a way to save the day. Had she not done what she did, all of our heroes would be dead… We're just seeing the beginning of growth for her, exploring who she is and what it means to be a witch and how she feels about it."
