NASA just gave Curiosity the Star Trek treatment. In anticipation of the rover's upcoming landing, the Agency has released two versions of a video entitled "Grand Entrance." The first is narrated by William Shatner, the second by Wil Wheaton. I think I speak for just about everyone in saying "oh hell yes."
"Shatner and Wheaton are mavericks in inspiring film, TV and social media audiences about space," said Bert Ulrich, NASA's multimedia liaison for film and TV collaborations, in a news release. "NASA is thrilled to have them explain a difficult landing sequence in accessible terms that can be understood by many. Thanks to their generous support, Mars exploration will reach Tweeters, Trekkies and beyond!"
So which will it be, folks? Kirk or Crusher? Pick your poison:
Captain James T. Kirk
We're really excited to see NASA releasing better and better videos to promote its projects. To be totally honest, "Seven Minutes of Terror," which NASA released toward the end of last month, is still my favorite Curiosity-themed video to date (if you haven't seen it yet, go check it out immediately); but Shatner and Wheaton definitely come in at a close second.
