The Flaming Lips' 2002 concept album Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots happens to be a personal favorite of ours. And from November 6 to December 16, a musical version of this trippy LP will hit San Diego's La Jolla Playhouse. Here's the synopsis of this show, which is helmed by Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne and director Des McAnuff:

The Flaming Lips' Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots musical is coming this November

Yoshimi is a young Japanese artist facing the battle of her life: the battle for her life. Adrift from her family and lover, Yoshimi journeys alone into a fantastical robot-world where she wages a war with fate. Will her will to survive be powerful enough to master the evil forces that threaten to destroy her?

For further information on this "dazzling, multi-media experience that offers an allegory of our modern battle for progressive thought and individuality in the face of blind acceptance and conformity," check out the character list from the casting call. (If selected, certain performers "must be comfortable with aerial work and heights.") Hat tip to Matt McC!
