They're making a Gnomeo and Juliet sequel called Sherlock Gnomes!

Forget Elementary — the most out-there version of Sherlock Holmes could be the sequel to last year's most enjoyably ludicrous animated film. Elton John's production company is making a Gnomeo and Juliet sequel, in which the gnomes from the first movie have to enlist the aid of a famous gnome detective to solve the disappearance of garden gnomes across England.

The first Gnomeo movie was more fun than you would expect a silly "garden gnomes reenact Shakespeare" movie produced by Elton John to be. It was full of James McAvoy shouting "Who's your Gnomey?" while the gnomes compete to have the most deadly lawn-mower in the universe. Not exactly Pixar material, but I wasn't bored or horrified. And there was a smidge of a female-empowerment message, as Juliet proved she could take care of herself away from gnome. Er, home.

In any case, the writers of the first movie are back, and hopefully McAvoy is too. Elton John is writing more original music. And it's being helmed by the director of Kung-Fu Panda, John Stevenson. Mostly, I just want this series to continue and continue, so eventually they run out of classic literary works to plunder and the eighth movie will be a retelling of The Story of O called The Story of Gnome.
