While the rest of the world waits for America to get done with its yearly national binge-eating contest, it's worth reminding foreign peoples that Thanksgiving isn't all decadence and tryptophan. Thanksgiving can also be a time of nightmarish horror, as evidenced by this clip from the 1965 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Oh sure, nowadays parade viewers are forced to endure four or so hours of Matt Lauer, which is nobody's idea of a good time. But in 1965, people - including young children! - were terrorized by the sight of these horrors marching down Broadway:

• Clowns
• A float representing some type of Lovecraftian nightmare
• Furries
• Some kind of macrocephalic court jester-thing
• The Munsters

Honestly, the Munsters are the least terrifying part of this video, although they're currently a bitter reminder that NBC canceled Mockingbird Lane. So don't begrudge us Americans our gross overindulgence, my foreign friends. We only eat so that we do not weep.
