The Walking Dead's Gale Anne Hurd is getting into anime with a Gaiking movie

Gale Anne Hurd, queen of the genre legend and tastemaker, is getting into the giant robots business. Perhaps it was something she say in Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim trailer?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Walking Dead producer is backing a live-action, feature film adaptation of the classic anime Gaiking. Her production company will be teaming up with Toei Animation and All Nippon Entertainment Work.

Gaiking was a small series that lived and died between 1974 to 1976, consisting of 44 episodes, centered around a baseball star who now pilots a giant robot to protect our planet. Could we be approaching the mecha renaissance?
