Did George Lucas copy Star Wars' opening catchphrase from an ad in a fashion magazine?

Check out this ad, which appeared in a 1974 issue of Vogue Magazine. Does it remind you of anything? Did you feel a faint disturbance in the Force, as if a million Star Wars fans were realizing that absolutely everything in George Lucas' seminal classic is borrowed from other sources — even the iconic phrase about a galaxy far, far away? If this magazine ad is real and not photoshopped, then it's a fascinating sign of just what a magpie Lucas really was.

Update: Various people have already pointed out the text crawl is pretty much based on the Flash Gordon serials, which I pretty much knew. Still, it's funny to think of Lucas perusing magazines and having phrases stick in his head. [Deep Glamour via Virginia Postrel]
