No, David S. Goyer is not directing a live-action Hellsing movie

Yesterday, Comic Book Movie reported that David S. Goyer would be tackling a feature film adaptation of the vampire manga Hellsing produced by an independent film company. Bolstered by the film's "official" website and claims of those supposedly involved, a couple of folks have repeated the report. Let's nip this rumor in the bud: Goyer is not directing a Hellsing film.

According to the movie site, this Hellsing movie would star Asim Ahmad (who is also listed as the screenplay writer and a co-producer) as the powerful vampire Alucard. We contacted Stefanie Levina, who is also listed as a co-producer, who told us that Ahmad met Goyer on the set of Goyer's upcoming TV series Da Vinci's Demons and agreed to direct Ahmad's Hellsing after reading the script. She also said that Ahmad's production company, Solar Eclipse Films, has two other supernatural films in the works.

However, when we contacted Goyer's publicist, we were told that he is not involved in a Hellsing film and has not been approached about such a project.

Previously, Ahmad was rumored to have been cast as Thoros of Myr in the upcoming season of Game of Thrones (the role will actually be played by Paul Kaye). More recently, he claimed to have been cast as Michael Morbius in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, although SuperHeroHype confirmed that there was no such casting. Given Ahmad's track record with these announcements, a grain of salt is definitely indicated when his name comes up—even more so than with most unofficial casting and project reports.

Update: Goyer has posted his official denial of the rumor on his blog.
