We finally have a cast for the show, which is expected to be on Netflix next year. And there are a lot of familiar names on the list.
Here's the cast:
- People who've done science fiction before include Naveen Andrews, Daryl Hannah, Brian J. Smith (Stargate: Universe), Tuppence Middleton (Jupiter Ascending), Aml Ameen (The Maze Runner), and Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who).
- There's also a strong international element here, with the cast rounded out by Indian actress Tena Desae, South Korean actress Doona Bae, German actor Max Riemelt, Mexican actors Alfonso Herrera and Erendira Ibarra
- The fourteen person cast is finished by Jamie Clayton, Miguel Silvestri and Terrence Mann.
The diverse nature of the cast makes sense, since the production will actually travel to Chicago, San Francisco, London, Iceland, Seoul, Mumbai, Berlin, Mexico City and Nairobi to film. The premise is to follow eight people who discover that they are mentally linked following tragedy. According to Deadline, the eight will be played by Smith, Middleton, Ameen, Bae, Silvestri, Desae, Riemelt and Clayton. Anyone else looking forward to a show that claims to be global and actually is?
Here's J. Michael Straczynski, who shares showrunning duties with the Wachowskis, describing the show in more detail:
The series follows eight characters around the world who, in the aftermath of a tragic death, find themselves linked to each other mentally and emotionally. They can not only see and talk to each other as though they were in the same place, they have access to each other's deepest secrets. Not only must they figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, they must do so while being hunted by an organization out to capture, kill or vivisect them.
This really sounds like Netflix doing not only high-concept, but pouring a lot of production and talent into this show. We have high hopes here.
