Meet the Surinam Toad, a five-inch-long amphibian that lives in South America. Once the female toad's eggs are fertilized by the male, they embed in her back, which transforms into a honeycomb-like lattice. Once the tadpoles fully mature, they make their escape. This is when the horror begins. More »

Hiccups don't serve a useful function anymore, but they were useful to our very ancient ancestors. Find out how early fish 'hiccuped' in order to breath underwater. More »

With amphibians among the creatures hardest-hit by disease and extinction over the past several years, conservation groups are working to find and protect as many species as possible. Today Conservation International announced the discovery of three new ultratiny toads. More »

Frogs and other amphibians lived through several mass extinctions on Earth over the past 250 million years, surviving the dinosaur wipeout and the most recent Ice Age. But now, say scientists this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, all that is changing. Amphibians are going extinct in such huge numbers that we've entered nothing short of a new mass extinction event. It's the sixth such event in known Earth history. <a href="http://io9.com/5036187/frog-deaths-are-a-harbinger-of-sixth-mass-extinction-on-earth" title="Click here to read more about Frog Deaths Are A Harbinger of "Sixth Mass Extinction" on Earth">More »
