The 4th Wizard of Oz TV adaptation, Dorothy Must Die, is the weirdest

You guys there are TOO MANY Wizard of Oz adaptations running around. Too many. This is the fourth and it's all about how Dorothy has decided to rule over Oz like some sort of fascist dictator, who must be killed. Huh?

Deadline is reporting that The CW is working on a Oz based drama from Heroes head Tim Kring. It's based on the yet-to-be-released novel Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige, and here's the gist (according to Deadline):

[Set] 80 years after Dorothy Gale supposedly came home. In reality, the magically-ever-youthful Dorothy has stayed in Oz, presiding over a now fascist fairyland with her perfectly manicured iron fist and the help of her henchmen – the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion. But when another young woman from Kansas is swept up in a tornado and magically dropped into this war-torn Oz, our hero discovers a revolutionary underground of witches and enchanted beings only to learn that she is destined to lead their people in the fight to reclaim Oz from a power-hungry Dorothy’s ruthless clutches.

Woof, that's a lot to digest. Not sure if we need another revisionist tale of Oz — we've already had a bazillion, and this one might be the most insane to boot. Oh well, it's The CW. You know they're just going to have the Cowardly Lion make out with the Scarecrow for a whole season, only to kill off the lion as the season-ending cliffhanger. And that could be fun, we guess.
