Benedict Cumberbatch has already played one iconic Khan; now he's playing another. He has been cast in the Andy Serkis-directed adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book as the malevolent tiger Shere Khan.
THR reports that Cumberbatch has been announced as the first cast member in Serkis' adaptation, which will also be Serkis' directorial debut. Serkis' Jungle Book is competing with Disney's production of The Jungle Book, which is being directed by Jon Favreau. Favreau's Jungle Book boasts Idris Elba as Shere Khan, but after seeing Cumberbatch's Smaug, we're especially interested in seeing what he brings to the deadly tiger.
