Another Asian Based Concept Whitewashed! Dragon Ball Z, FAILED!, Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li, FAILED! AVATAR, DOOMED! LOL! Good luck Shymalan!

@GR_Roman: While I think both of those movies sucked beyond belief, Avatar definitely has more hype, more money and a slightly more credible director.

@GR_Roman: The majority of the Street Fighter characters were not Asian. And to my knowledge, I'm pretty sure that the characters in Dragon Ball Z are all a bunch of freaky weird alien things. Definitely NOT human.

@GR_Roman: In the defense of this project, it takes place in a fictional world where the is no "Asia" or "Europe," so maybe Aang really did look like a little white boy. I do think it was a wasted opportunity to get some culturally diverse actors on screen, though, and I think it does display Hollywood's aversion to ethnic actors (seriously, the actress chosen to play Chun Li just BARELY looked like she was maybe a quarter chinese). And yeah, in Dragon Ball, Goku is an alien, so he's not necessarily Asian - but they still managed to destroy that movie beyond repair.

@Altair12: Two (!!) craptastic live-action movies based on Street Fighter, and neither with Ryu as the main character. No problem, I guess. He's only the main character of the original game, the lone constant in its 50 billion sequels, and an icon of both the series, its developers (Capcom), and the fighting genre.
By making a Chun-Li-centric SF movie, the filmmakers cash in on a reviving franchise (with SFIV coming out around the same time IIRC) while safely tiptoeing around having an Asian MALE lead character. Well, would have cashed in on, if people actually watched that steaming pile.
