Glad I'm not the only one who sees the value in Unbreakable. Lots of vitriol directed towards it when it came out because "the twist" wasn't bid enough or something.

Personally, more than anything I love the core idea that mythic hero epics (and later comic books) might be descended from the exploits of real exceptional humans.

Rather than a sequel about the Jackson and Willis pair, I'd like to see something set in the same universe with another character. The genius of Unbreakable was that Willis played someone who was truly super-human, but subtly so. Comic books (and the epics before them) are exaggerations, so the idea of someone who's sort of "a little bit" stronger, faster, or smarter, appeals to me. Reply

@MikeHerbst: Don't confuse "not big enough" with stupid. Reply

@MikeHerbst: There is a lot of promise for a sequel to this. It would be difficult to figure out where to take it.

Seriously, what's the story? Reply

@ceptri:

I guess I don't see it as stupid because the real twist for me was that movie as a whole. Instead of being yet another superhero origin story movie, this is a movie where its a more detailed origin story for the villain.

Many comic book movies lavish on the origin of the hero and then do the villain's story as a flippant five minute thing. Spiderman's Green Goblin went from indifferent father & obsessed scientist to psychopathic murderer in the span of one canceled military project and a gas chamber, taking all of about 3 minutes on screen. The Sandman got a couple more minutes and the "super deep" backstory of a sick daughter. Reply
