This shows exactly why Ford was such a wonderful stroke of luck for parts IV-VI: he managed to robe the cheesiness of Lucas´ dialogues in charming irony, thus putting the movie back on the ground whenever it threatened to completely lose itself in its own weird ideas.
If I-III had provided a sarcastic Han Solo-like character, these episodes wouldn´t have been the complete fail that they were in the end.
"Midichlorians, huh? What the heck are you talking about, you deranged mage? Okay, I say let´s raise these critters in a bottle and vaccinate people with this stuff, we could make a fortune!" #starwars Reply

@Karmacoma: I definately agree. I think part of the problem with eps I-III was no Han Solo-type character to keep it grounded. #starwars

Oh God, I think if I-III had provided some kind of literary anchor to IV-VI, some kind of structure to really setting up for the original three movies, they wouldn't have been the complete fail they were in the end. J.J. Abrams managed to make a whole *new* mythos and franchise and somehow bind it to the original series without compromising this new universe he's created. Brilliant.
Why can J.J. Abrams write such a effective new series and George Lucas can't? #starwars Reply

@Dr.ClaytonForrester: Jack Burton as Han Solo? Intruiging, Sir, very intruigung :-)
And yeah, well, the reason why Abrahams could and Lucas couldn´t.... I´m afraid the answer is, Lucas sucks as a writer anyway, and in eps I-III he already was so damn big that nobody dared to tell him anymore...
While Abrahams just effin knows how to write a good plot! #starwars Reply
