@kb: We are? Please tell me that those other countries don't all believe what idiots like Mercola rant about the microwave? #food

@Dirk Anger: Sorry, didn't mean one of the only countries. That was a bit black and white. What I do mean is that Russia for example has never allowed the use of the microwave, not to mention that the microwave is banned in the UK. This is what my research tells me. It has been found for example that the microwave changes the chemical structure of certain foods like milk for example which basically becomes carcinogenic after it has been nuked.

Seriously: WTF, dude? Are you sure you're not pulling my leg? because I'm not... I'll ask my friend who lived in Russia, but I really really don't think it's possible that Russia doesn't allow microwave ovens and there aren't jokes about it

@Dirk Anger: Yeah, I know. That's what I said too when I first heard about this. Not sure about the credibility of this source, but check out tip number 4 on this page: [www.healthyyounaturally.com]
There are many other sources as well on the topic as well, including the underground wellness guy on youtube in one of his videos. Not sure if the UK is actually involved, but they did say Europe. That could be all of Europe or not, but yeah if this does turn out to be 100% legitimate, it would give me the perfect excuse to surf the internet looking for microwave hacks. Reply

@kb: *Jaw dropping to the underground*
There are so many reasons that page is crap, I don't know where to begin.
Starting by the url: Healthy is not a verb
The name of the site: "Holistic Health & Natural Living Centre
Your Power Of Natural Healing, Health and Wellness Unleashed"
It's lacking of a "and positive energy" to be perfect
"There is a reason why microwave ovens are banned in Europe. Well, that's at best wishful but some of the earliest research into the effects of microwaved food was conducted in the 1950s in Russia. That research indicated bigger dangers than destruction of nutrients."
At least they know they're not banned. But those studies probably had more to do with showing the people how those decadent capitalists couldn't even warm a glass of milk without poisoning themselves than it had with any actual study
A search for amino acid carcinogen microwave:[www.google.es]
There are thousands of those "healthy lifestyle" websites talking about that article that (apparently) says the article says microwaving milk turns it into asbestos or something.
Then check the article itself. The ABSTRACT says microwaving is preferred because the variations in those things is very small and the time saved is great. I'll tell you how it works: one guy heards about the article, looks for it, and after reading milk, microwave and cancer in the first paragraph, he stops reading and starts writing his article about how microwave is killing us. Then all of the others publish their own articles quoting HIM instead of the original article.
"According to Dr. Cristina Garcia-Viguera, co-author of the study, microwaved broccoli loses 97 percent, 74 percent, and 87 percent of the three major cancer-protecting antioxidant compounds (flavonoids, sinapics and caffeoyl-quinic derivatives).
By comparison, steamed broccoli loses 11 percent, 0 percent and 8 percent of the very same antioxidants"
And then you search for "Cristina Garcia-Viguera Microondas" and see that her article says: "Sólo el vapor asegura los beneficios de las verduras": That is, yeah, microwaving vegetables* make them much less healthy than steaming them. Also, boiling them, cooking them in the oven or frying them.
*Who the hell microwaves vegetables?
I could go on, but I think you get the point. When something smells fishy or sensationalist, you should get the habit of checking what their sources actually say, which as in this case, probably doesn't have much to do with what they infer from them, except for a few buzzwords.

@Dirk Anger: Hmmm, I see your point. Yeah, definitely not happy with the crap information. That website is not a very good source. I just checked out this ([www.imminst.org]) thread, and apparently one of the guys lives in the UK and has a microwave, and according to another guy, the microwave was banned in Russia for a period of time, but no longer. Someone else also said there are listings for them on the UK sites.
Still don't know if I trust it though. Probably just use it if desperate. Till then, I'll stick with the toaster oven and eats me veggies raw. Reply

@kb: What's a toaster oven? They're probably banned in Europe as well, because it's the first time I hear of those.
In the meantime, I hope it's enough if I eat my meat bloody, but with the amount of crap we're exposed to everyday, I'm not going to stop eating delicious stuff because it increases my likeliness of getting cancer from 60% to 65%

@Dirk Anger: Toaster oven. Basically a mini oven, great for either making or warming pizzas or anything else small enough to fit in it. Saves electricity and is also faster than a larger oven. Yeah, I agree with the percentages on that. To me its not much either, but every little bit counts.
