@Dash_Stryker: Agreed.
Miyazaki is a way to get children into Anime, Kon is how you keep the adults interested. Reply

@NerD: Blattella: i don't know. i never really liked paranoia agent all that much and i have yet to actually sit through all of tokyo godfathers due to lack of interest.miyazaki, in my experience, is the way to get adults into anime just as much as children. the stories may not be as complex, or as needless convoluted, but the visuals are stunning. which is the primary thing adults, again in my experience, need to realize, that animation can be more than color filled bubbles arranged in the shape of a talking head on screen. adults, i've found, find this easier to handle in a story that's meant to take place in a fantasy world and only over time gradually open themselves up to the possibility of an animated feature that takes place in the real world.

@tetracycloide: Paranoia Agent is a tough sell, and shouldn't be the first choice.
I would recommend Paprika. Reply

@Dash_Stryker: No offense, but I've never understood the comparison between Miyazaki and Disney. Is it because both have children it their movies? Maybe, I missed something, but when then did Disney ever make a movie that had a hero on the verge of becoming a demon like in Princess Mononoke? When did Disney ever make an animated film in which a monk led a hunting party against a demi-god? When did Disney have a man turn into a pig because of his experiences with the horrors of war? Miyazaki's films are both more complex and better animated than Disney.

@Bill-Lee: I will give you complex but better animated I would have to give a no on. at any point I would say the statement is more of a generality then a direct one to one comparison seeing as both men have made great strides in the world of animation whether you like walt disney or not you have to respect that. also i said if.

@Dash_Stryker: I know you said "if" in your particular statement but you aren't the only person to use the names Disney and Miyazaki in the same sentence, that the comparison is made at all is what bothers me. I mean both Picasso and Leonardo da Vinci made great strides in painting but nobody ever compares them.

@Bill-Lee: do you compare a dentist to a to a family practice doctor? Well why does it bother you? it's complement to both parties.

@Dash_Stryker: This is a matter of personal taste but I think Miyazaki is better than Disney and that Isao Takahata (the co-founder of Studio Ghibli) is better than both of them.

@Bill-Lee: It's the same thing as saying the Yakuza are like the Mafia. Sure there are similarities (large crime families) but they aren't the same, such as Yakuza operate as "legitimate" businesses/clubs that usually do have a large (mostly) legitimate portion, the Mafia exists underground and mostly illegally. It's not true comparison, it's just so that people can explain to the simple minded quickly and easily without a lot of discussion. After all, what sounds easier, saying "Studio Ghibli is the Disney of Japan", or this entire conversation?
