My cable company says a Tivo box won't work on their network so I never bothered to buy one, even though they have much better boxes than what Time Warner gives me.

@reddingofish: I have a Tivo HD box with a Time Warner cable card in it because I hated the TW DVR. I would check again because you can easily get the wrong info from them.

@reddingofish: that's illegal. cable companies have to provide cable cards at the request of customer.

@reddingofish: If you're in the US, your cable company must provide cable cards. File a complaint with the FCC.

@reddingofish: Trust me, I got the runaround at first as well, it took about 3 weeks but the TW tech came with the card and put it in the Tivo and it's been like that for almost 2 years now. It's sad how poorly their departments communicate with each other so you have to ask for a manager or something like that.
They have single card that record one channel at a time or Multi-stream cards to allow two channel recording.
