OK here's my prediction for the End of Time Part 2: The Doctor dies because he has to sacrifice himself in order to save Donna and wipe out the part doctor while preserving her memories, and Wilf has to "pull the trigger" to do it. All those past people appear in his memory.

@emaliabalash: It's pretty clear the Doctor is actually saying goodbye to Rose et al., wearing his torn-up suit, in those set pics.

@Charlie Jane Anders: You're right he is saying goodbye, but he is not wearing his torn up suit in the set pics with Sarah Jane and Rose. Something happens between his goodbyes and the first episode of the next series that not only cause the Doctor and the Tardis to regenerate, but ruins a 3rd brown suit.
i feel a bit like the destruction of the suits is a bit of a running gag for these last episodes to drive home the idea that the 10th Doctor is definitely done (for now).
The material used to make the brown suits is long since discontinued (it came from the Gap of all places) and they were never able to source anymore of it which is why they made the blue suit. Luckily though David Tennant has said that one of his suits is safely under lock and key if ever he should need to wear it again in the future. Reply
