A guy can't buy clothing for his gurl because there is no conversion table between men's and women's sizes (outside of S,M,L).
From youth, guy's clothes are about actual, physical measurements (eg.,pants 32x30, shirts 16x32).
No femme has ever been able to explain to me the difference between misses and petite sizes (or why they are even broken out that way) or the arcane numbers used (She's a size 8).
Is this a part of the 'feminine mystique'? Reply
"Petites" are more like the regular women's line (so more businessy and grown-up casual), but tailored differently. They're not just uniformly smaller, but will usually have shorter sleeves and legs in proportion to the rest of the garment. I'm short (5'1") and should be a perfect petites customer, but I like my sleeves long and while regular pant legs are way too long for me, petites are almost always lamely ankle-flashingly short.
I hope that clears things up.
And the other thing about women's sizes is that, since they're not based on concrete measurements, they're also wildly inconsistent. So your 8-size lady friend could probably wear 6s, 8s, 10s, Ms, and Ls, and probably all sorts of other things besides...
ReplyCouple that with the fact that women both tend to wear tighter clothes than men and tend to have much more variable sizes than men do (your hormonal periods seem awfully inconvenient, honestly, and you should really look into the relatively innocuous periods that men have instead), there's no guarantee that any given garment will even approach being the right size.
In general, I think it's not really worth the hassle to buy clothes for someone else. People can choose their own clothes, I'll find something else to gift.
