<![CDATA[Comments from Gospel X]]> <![CDATA[Comments from Gospel X]]> <![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Does Metal Gear Solid Need A Movie?]]> @slomo788: He did treatments on X1 and X2, and there's no telling how much of his work actually made it to the final films. His being a good writer is pretty much speculation at best.

@Archaotic: The dude merely did voice work for the game. That's like telling me that James Marsden knows the X-Men movie mythos backwards and forwards because he's been in every flick. Granted, it sounds like Hayter actually does play the games, but it's not like he wrote the Metal Gear Database. I respect his work, but I bet there are a ton of people better suited for the job.

And Metal Gear Solid requires no movie. Kojima already thinks of himself as a movie director. I mean, what he does is better suited for movies and NOT for a gaming experience. If I spend more time watching a game than playing it, something's wrong.

But I honestly wouldn't have too much of a problem if someone were to adapt the original Metal Gear games into a couple of movies. They'd be a couple of mindless action flicks, but they're the only ones that aren't movies already. (Well, aside from some handheld games...)

<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Mobile-Suit Gundam 00 To Air On Sci Fi]]> @Mecharine: After wonderfoo mentioned "realistic" and "gritty" space drama, I was hoping someone would mention Votoms. While I haven't yet watched the new OVA, I watched the TV series years ago and finished the Mellowlink OVA a few weeks back. Unfortunately, those are too old to even be considered for television unless someone were to create a channel specifically for retro anime.

<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on XBLA This Week: Schizoid And Golf : Tee It Up!]]> @Aprotosis: I'd accept that, since it's a very good point, except for the fact that graphic up there literally says, "Two minds," which makes me think that they're going for the idea of pop-culture version of the schizophrenic.

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on David Hayter Begged Konami To Change MGS4 Stuff]]> @kubevubin: Because there's a Watchmen movie in the works, and the person screaming out wants David Hayter to do a treatment on that particular screenplay.

<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Yes, This Is The Chrono Trigger DS Trailer]]> How about instead of re-selling the game at full price, they make a GOOD sequel and include the original? As it stands, I can't get excited about this game because I already own it.

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on XBLA This Week: Schizoid And Golf : Tee It Up!]]> Just a note from the psychological side of things, but "schizoid" means someone with flat affect and a strong inability to form close relationships (there's more to it, but those are some major aspects of it), NOT someone of two minds or with a split personality. The more you know.

<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Mobile-Suit Gundam 00 To Air On Sci Fi]]> @FearFactor: I would love for Patlabor to air on TV here in the States. Unfortunately, older series tend to do terribly here because people keep saying, "But it looks so old!" Terrible.

@brainwav: Check out the Zeta movies. Far less angst from the protagonist and far better storytelling overall.

@phoenix: Wing? Really? As far as most Gundam fans are concerned these days, that's toward the bottom of the list - along with G Gundam and Gundam X (which, by the way, I loved). Wing's problem is that it is kind of a super-compressed form of both Gundam and Zeta Gundam in one series - but with pretty boys! You'll like 00 a lot then. It was basically advertised by Gundam Wing fans as "New and improved Gundam Wing!" Truth be told, it does have a better overall plot than Wing, but it takes nearly forever to get there.

<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Transformers Roll Out Into A Whole New Genre - NSFW]]> So I did myself the disservice of actually reading "Confession". It bothers me that the art in the beginning probably could have easily passed in the early Marvel comics. Actually, it was a little better. Beyond that, Optimus literally says, "Suck my bot cock, Megatron!" Why did I even read it?

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on First Awful Glimpse Of Keanu Reeves As Klaatu]]> @Miranda Kali: Clever. I appreciate it.

@tetracycloide: Well, I actually like Dominoes Pizza and would argue that they get sales via good product. The quality of the product has remained constant over time, unlike, say, Little Ceasar's. They don't claim to sell high-end pizza, but they also don't have unnecessarily high prices either. Why a Dark Knight trailer? Well, I'd have to ask why there were Halo cups at 7-11 a year ago. It's just the direction marketing has gone in. So far, they still haven't found a reason to "improve" their pizza. They simply don't have to. If people are eating it, they're still doing something right.

<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Mega-Publisher Kodansha Changes the Definition of Manga]]> @JennaW: @Annalee Newitz: You know, it's entirely possible that I could have only dealt with only a small subsection of hipster. I grew up in Michigan and my main dealings with them have been there. I've recently moved to California and I haven't had the, uhhh, pleasure of interacting with the particular style of hipster that they have out here. Hmmm... I might even like the hipsters out here.

<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Would Robin Ruin The Christopher Nolan Bat-Movies?]]> By the way, anyone mentioned the All-Star Batman and Robin comic for any reason should realize one thing: Frank Miller really can't write. I'm amused overall by ASBaR, but it's not a very well-written book. In all honesty, I don't think I've read anything of his that was actually WRITTEN well. I don't think he's capable. He gets by thanks to good artists.

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Would Robin Ruin The Christopher Nolan Bat-Movies?]]> I didn't vote because I didn't like the options. I would have liked a, "No, because one character alone can't ruin a film series - it's up to the writers." The Robin character isn't inherently campy, and the right writers could probably make an amazing story out of his origin. For crying out loud, the first movie had Scarecrow and Ra's al Ghul!!! Every Robin has a tragic history they're working to overcome, and they each display a certain level of emotional growth that Batman was unable to attain on his own. The Robin characters have each helped to keep Batman more sane and stable (actually, I believe he said so himself in the latest issue of the main comic). I honestly think Robin can work in the films if they really invest themselves in. If Christian Bale walks, then frak him. He's an amazing actor and probably the best Bruce Wayne yet; but if he's willing to walk away due to misconceptions he has about characters he hardly knows, then I really don't give a damn if he's replaced. And he can be replaced.

<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Zero Punctuation Takes On Ctrl+Alt+Del]]> Oy, so many comments to read on this one...and I'm not going to bother. I'm tired of the many people on the main page saying that the author killed a baby. I'm just glad there's no debate about what constitutes a human life and if the miscarriage counts as killing a baby or not. Regardless, it's just a web comic, and this was done for dramatic tension. I just read Buckley's commentary on the whole storyline, and it's reasonable. I have to admit, though, that this particular storyline didn't seem to mesh very well with the rest of the comic. It's like it belonged elsewhere. But I also have to admit that storytelling was good.

I can't say I'm much of a fan of CAD anymore, but not because of the storyline. And I will continue reading the comic because it continues to be interesting. What I hate is how people say it's not like Penny-Arcade and all that crap. At least CAD isn't a comic that basically reviews video games and receives freebies from the various companies in order to do so. Hasn't that ever struck anyone as strange? Penny-Arcade receives preview copies and more of games that they put in comics and/or mention in their thrice-weekly blurbs... Worse yet is the fact that they have their own game now. People who are essentially trusted to review games for the populace are now selling a game to the populace... Interesting.

CAD is fine the way it is. The disjointed storyline is over and it's back to the gag-a-days. Meanwhile, I've completely stopped reading Penny-Arcade. There's something that rubs me the wrong way about the entire setup of their comic now...

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Mega-Publisher Kodansha Changes the Definition of Manga]]> I'm trying to wrap my brain around manga being a hipster thing... Maybe I only have limited experience with the hipster subculture, but they tend to have an appreciation for the non-Asian foreign cultures. They might like a handful of old giant monster flicks, but anime are childish cartoons like Pokemon and Dragonball to them. Manga would be equally disregarded unless it's a full-sized trade like Akira. Otherwise, they like mostly American comics from the indie scene or Vertigo.

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on First Awful Glimpse Of Keanu Reeves As Klaatu]]> I have to ask, was it necessary to rag on Domino's Pizza? I mean, I admit it's not Papa John's, but it's pretty damn good! Plus it was founded in Ypsilanti, MI, just outside of Ann Arbor. Show some respect, OK?

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Which Secret Scifi Spy Group Could Actually Stop Terrorism?]]> Really, how could anyone NOT vote for SHIELD? I mean, Stark is a non-factor. In my mind, it always involves Fury.

<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Back to the Present with Chronotron]]> This isn't going to look good for me, but the predestination paradoxes happened in the second movie, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. Strangely, that's the only one I ever see on cable anymore, and always around that part.

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on A 70-Year-Old's Take on Metal Gear Solid 4]]> @Shiryu: I've been saying that ever since I played the first MGS. Didn't stop me from playing the other games and loving them immensely, but the series is seriously bordering on game and non-game.

@greeble: That's kind of whiney. Information revealed publicly before the game's release (and this was well before the game's release) is fair game in public forums. Plus, this is very, very minor. If it the post said something like, "Then my dad reacted poorly to the part where Ocelot shot Snake point blank in the face, immediately killing the poor bastard. I won't even go into what he said about Liquid Snake bursting from Ocelot's chest, fully grown - but dad didn't like the idea of having to control Raiden for the final act of the game," then there'd be cause for complaint. Just thank me for making up inforamtion instead of pulling the ultimate dick move and revealing some really startling information.

(Note: On io9 there was a discussion about what constitutes a spoiler for a TV series and what doesn't, which led to people posting the obvious "Vader is Luke's father" and whatnot. Someone actually dropped the major revelation at the end of MGS4. THIS is a spoiler not worth any whining.)

Oh, and my dad still games every now and then. Ever since I was a kid, he'd play every Zelda game that ever pops up in our house, and he'd gladly play any and all shooters. Yes, my papa played Ikaruga and Gradius 5 for hours on end. When I moved away, I left him with a PS2 and some Ace Combat games. Yeah, I just ended up pissing off my mom by doing that...

<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Dragonball Violates The Android Geneva Convention]]> @Aethyr: Can't agree with you there. Toriyama's style is very distinct and very much his own, and I enjoy that. My problem with DBZ lies not in the art but the fact that he was forced to extend the series repeatedly. Oh, and the focus not allowed to be completely on Gohan despite the fact that it would have made sense.

Also, Toriyama's artwork goes hand-in-hand with appreciating the awesome time-traveling RPG Chrono Trigger.

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Why Did We Never See Neal Stephenson's Future-Batman Movie?]]> I'd be all for reviving Batman Beyond as a feature film series, but keep it animated. Terry needs to be voiced by Will Friedle, and he's grown a bit old to play the part in a live-action film.

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Macross Ace Frontier Coming to PSP]]> @Bookdiver: I was going to point out the slight mistake myself, but I'm glad someone else was on it. Technically, though, the jet mode is not called "veritech" mode. It's often called "fighter", and there were a couple instances in the series when the dub actually said "valkyries".

Regardless, I like when people accidentally call valkyries veritechs, because it shows that we all tend to have similar roots.

<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Nintendo: "We're Working On" A Wii Storage Solution]]> The solution will come on the Wii 2.0. I expect, at best, 10GB flash memory. I actually haven't had a problem with the memory on the system thus far. Granted, I haven't downloaded a shit ton of games nor made an insane number of stages in Smash Bros., but I've downloaded every freebie channel offered by Nintendo, have 15 games, and have a handful of VC titles. Seems to be working out just fine for me. I'm pretty sure that in time I won't have a problem with deleting Super Metroid from the system. Next time I download it, I'll be more than happy to play through the game all over again.

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Square Enix's New Japanese Arcade Game]]> @scuba2steve: There's a certain social element that is missing when gaming in the comfort of your own home. You never meet anyone new. You're just there, on your couch/bed/floor/etc., in your personal bubble. Arcades, first and foremost, get you outside of your personal gaming zone. They potentially involve you with other people. Not to mention the fact that there's a better chance that you'll give that unfamiliar game a chance when you're staring at it with a shiney quarter in your hand.

Although, honestly, I think that Japanese arcades are a totally different monster. I've been to a few, not to mention some Japanese/Asian-style arcades on the West Coast. While still neat because they are less familar to me than the Western-style of arcade, they definitely strike me as impersonal shitholes.

<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Empire Strikes Back Scribe To Tackle Robotech]]> @Saturn3: I agree, Macek did a great job. I don't like that some people now refer to series that have been hacked up once they hit America as "Macekred". Robotech was born of necessity, and it told a great story. Honestly, if not for Robotech, I wouldn't be an anime fan today.

As for Macross Frontier, though...it has its moments, but I'm mostly bored with the series so far. I really hope it picks up in the second half. Otherwise, someone got a boring high school pseudo-comedy mixed with my Valkyrie pilot drama!

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Empire Strikes Back Scribe To Tackle Robotech]]> @Convair 990A: Yeah, the platform arms were way better than the battleships, but I somehow feel those were possibly an intentional Yamato homage. As yeahblah already mentioned, the movie is in copyright hell - much like most Macross properties. It was released briefly in '91 as Clash of the Bionoids, but it was a horribly grainy-looking Australian dub of the movie. The dub, I believe, was used to teach English back in the day. It was never meant to be heard outside of Asia. It's horrible. HORRIBLE.

You can easily find torrents for it all over the place, though. It's a decent option for the time being.

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Empire Strikes Back Scribe To Tackle Robotech]]> @Convair 990A: post facto justification for DYRL. They made an awesome movie, but naturally fans bitched about continuity, so it's a movie within the series. However, the new designs for the Zentraedi were kept for later series because the powers that be thought they were "so cool". I was not a fan of brainy Exedol...

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Empire Strikes Back Scribe To Tackle Robotech]]> @war4rged: DYRL was a bit crammed an hectic. It's a movie made for people who are already fans of Macross. There's no explanation of Max and Miriya, and it would have been nice to see the baby. If they're just covering the Macross saga with these live action films, then a trilogy wouldn't be a bad idea. There's just too much to cram into one movie unless you have a really, really good writer.

@ggodo: I recommend checking out Macross Plus. Sure, it's still Macross mecha, but it involves more advanced fighters. Plus, the story was penned by the same guy who penned 0083: Stardust Memory.

<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Games Have Endings Too, You Know]]> Some games don't need real endings. Games like Gradius and R-Type, for instance, feel rewarding when you get to the end because you feel like you've actually accomplished something. Those games are taxing, and the end is like having solved a really tough equation. Games like GTA that aer so plot heavy, on the other hand, feel inappropriate when the ending lets you down. The story brought you into it in the first place - and then what? That and the fact that people don't play games to their completion are probably very strong driving arguments AGAINST games being art.

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Casting Leonardo Dicaprio As Captain America Would Be Titanically Wrong]]> @reddingofish: No, I can see him as someone like Quicksilver. Brash, arrogant, and whiney.

]]>
<![CDATA[Gospel X commented on Casting Leonardo Dicaprio As Captain America Would Be Titanically Wrong]]> @ArthurPDragon: It's a Marvel movie, so people don't care that much. Wolverine is supposed to be really short, but they got Hugh Jackman. Cyclops is supposed to be really tall, but they got . . . forgot his name, but he's short. Shorter than Hugh Jackman! Storm is supposed to be tall nigh-amazonian - and they decided to cast the horrid Halle Berry! We're definitely not going for accuracy here.
