I get the feeling that it's not the buggy nature of the video card or the buggy nature of the OS (although they certainly contribute) but the third x factor that isn't shown in that graph.
But what's the market share comparison between Nvidia, ATI and the other video card manufacturers.

I gotta say that if it came down to it and I didn't have anything too important on there why not boil your hard drive?
The worst that could happen is that the drive that doesn't work anyway could be rendered completely worthless.
But I sure as hell wouldn't trust it to keep working for any length of time after boiling.

"High quality filtered animal fats don't go rancid that quickly anyway - especially if they're in a sealed container like that."
Actually you're wrong there, fats can even break down and go rancid in the absence of oxygen.
