Crowdfund a new game from Double Fine and a Manos puppet musical

Double Fine is hard at work on a turn-based strategy game that you can back on Kickstarter, but if you prefer adventure games, there's also a "spiritual successor" to The Neverhood to fund. Also, check out a musical puppet show based on one of the worst movies ever, and the latest volume of a brilliant webcomic.

Double Fine's MASSIVE CHALICE

Game makers Double Fine have already brought us the likes of Psychonauts and Brütal Legend, and now they're looking to make the turn-based strategy game Massive Chalice. Here's the pitch:

As an immortal King or Queen, you must unite your kingdom under a powerful dynasty, eliminate the demonic threat, and reforge the MASSIVE CHALICE!

The game is structured into two main layers: strategy and tactics. In the strategy layer, you oversee your kingdom, arrange royal marriages, conduct research, and make the far-reaching decisions that will determine the fate of your legacy.

In the tactics layer, you fight brutal turn-based battles to defend your kingdom using small squads of customizable heroes.

Permadeath is inevitable: your heroes will grow, age, and eventually die. You'll have to choose between keeping your favorite heroes on the battlefield or retiring them from combat to foster a new generation of warriors.

For a $20 pledge, you'll receive a copy of the game, plus access to backers-only forums.

MANOS - The Hands of Felt DVD

Manos: The Hands of Fate is often named one of the worst films ever made, and now you can relive the terrible glory through puppetry. Manos: The Hands of Felt has been touring as a musical puppet show adaptation of the cult film, and now is available on DVD. This campaign ends later today, so if you want to see it, grab it now! For a $5 pledge, you'll get a digital download. For a $30, you'll get the DVD. [via The Mary Sue]

Armikrog.

Pencil Test Studios is developing a "spiritual successor" to the game The Neverhood, using a combination of stop-motion animation and sculpture to create a unique environment. Here is the story:

Without giving too much away, Armikrog follows the adventures of a space explorer named Tommynaut and his blind alien, talking dog named Beak-Beak. They crash land on a weird planet and end up locked in a mysterious fortress called Armikrog. Then...the adventure begins!

The game will feature the voices of MST3K's Michael J. Nelson, Veronica Belmont, Jon Heder, and Rob Paulsen. For a $20 pledge, you'll receive the game. [via Cartoon Brew]

Skin Horse Volume 4

Full disclosure: I'm writing the intro to the latest volume of Jeffrey Wells and Shaenon Garrity's webcomic Skin Horse. But I'm not being paid to do it; I simply adore the comic. Skin Horse draws comparisons to the X-Files because it deals with social service agents who side with the monsters in society, but this volume includes references to blaxploitation films, T.H. White's The Once and Future King, and all kinds of media madness. Plus, one of the arcs takes place at a transgenic convention that turns quickly into a comic book convention. What's not to like?

For a $10 pledge, you'll receive a PDF of the book. For a $20 pledge, you'll receive the PDF, plus a signed and sketched copy of the print book.
