British comic Dan Dare is coming to the big screen, starring scifi hunk-du-jour Sam Worthington. But back in the 1980s, legendary model-maker Martin Bower created these designs for a Dan Dare movie that never got made. Look back in wonder. More »

Whatever damage Terminator Salvation did to star Sam Worthington's career, Avatar must have undone, because the Aussie is starring in yet another science fiction epic. Worthington is bringing square-jawed space pilot Dan Dare to life on the big screen. More »

Comics auteur-turned-director Frank Miller is just putting the finishing touches on his movie version of Will Eisner's The Spirit, but he's already looking ahead. Producer Deborah Del Prete told Collider she's working with Miller on revamping a "classic scifi hero." But it's too soon to say which one. Flash Gordon? Buck Rogers? Dan Dare? I'm intrigued by the idea of a Miller pulp scifi movie, since I loved The Big Guy And Rusty The Boy Robot, and his futuristic Martha Washington stories at least started well. Meanwhile, Del Prete also says she's talking to Orson Scott Card about doing an Ender's Game movie, which was still in the hands of Chartoff Productions last we heard. [Collider] More »

Every now and again you find something with such a wonderful, perfect, title that it throws every other story in the world into sharp relief. "Why," you think to yourself, "does every other story in the world not have a title so ideal to crystalize its content and intent into one small, simple phrase that touches my heart so?" And then you weep the tears of the unfulfilled, knowing that such perfection is so rare. All of which is my way of saying that this week sees the release of a comic called Jesus Hates Zombies. Absolutely nothing more about that particular graphic novel needs to be said, but the rest of this week's comics? Under the jump. More »

Richard Branson and Deepak Chopra's Virgin Comics are reviving Dan Dare, and the first issue hits shelves Thursday. Dare, Britain's longest-running science-fiction character (created in 1950, he's thirteen years older than Doctor Who) is returning to print courtesy of Garth Ennis, creator of Vertigo Comics' Preacher series, ahead of a rumored movie adaptation. Image courtesy of Virgin Comics [Newsarama] More »
