The fate of Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson's robot-uprising novel Robopocalypse has been up in the air for a while, but now it seems to be settled. Spielberg has secured financing from not one, but two studios to make the huge-budget feature. More »

It's official: Steven Spielberg will direct the movie version of Robopocalypse. Expect big, wide-screen, tentpole robot-revolution action, coming sometime in 2013. And there are the first details on Daniel H. Wilson's next book after Robopocalypse. According to Deadline, Spielberg is officially on board to direct Robopocalypse, with a script by Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, The Cabin in the Woods.) Spielberg was so excited about this project that he started the ball rolling when the novel wasn't even finished — as Wilson was finishing book pages, Goddard was turning them into script pages and the movie was being storyboarded and designed on the go. Now the book is finished — it comes out next June — and Spielberg will start shooting in January 2012. In the meantime, Spielberg is in post-production on his Tin Tin movie, plus War Horse, both of which will be out in December 2011. <a href="http://io9.com/5671060/duck-and-cover-steven-spielberg-officially-directing-robopocalypse-movie" title="Click here to read more about Duck and cover! If you're looking for a cool new science show to check out tonight, try The Works. It's debuting on the History Channel at 10 PM, and as you can see from this segment, you'll get to learn about very important scientific issues. Like why there is a head on beer. The best part is that The Works is hosted by io9 pal Daniel H. Wilson, roboticist and author of crucial apocalypse survival manual, How to Build a Robot Army. Only Wilson could really put the right inflection into the question, "What exactly is beer head?" Check him out on TV tonight!
