One of the most important skills to have if you're looking for dates is knowing whether somebody else is interested in you. According to psychologists who studied speed dating, this is actually an incredibly difficult skill to master. But one group is almost always accurate in their predictions of who wants to date them: men and women who exhibit extremely stereotypical gender behaviors. Men looking for sex and women looking for marriage had an uncanny ability to figure out whether members of the opposite sex were interested in them. More »

Most radioactive isotopes of the lighter elements decay in minutes or less. But one particular isotope of carbon takes 6000 years to decay, and that fact has revolutionized archaeology. But why it does that has long been a complete mystery. More »

As any man will tell you (especially in the weeks before Valentine's Day), gift-giving is a tricky business. Although men can use gifts to enhance their chances of getting laid, this can also leave them vulnerable to "gold-diggers" (a highly scientific term that describes women who use the promise of sex to get stuff from men, sometimes without actually putting out). So what kind of present can a guy give to improve his chances of getting laid while at the same time avoiding gold-diggers? More »

It's the perfect dating site for the personal genome age: Genepartner will take your genetic material and hook you up with people whose genetic profiles match yours. Because you wouldn't want to date somebody with a nasty genetic profile. According to the site, "Our formula is based on research on hundreds of couples and analyzes the pattern of genetic combinations found in successful relationships. Using this formula we will determine the probability for a satisfying and long-lasting romantic relationship between two people. This probability is highest when two people are genetically compatible." This is way more squicky than cloning, if you ask me. At the Jules Verne Adventure Film Festival last month during the Heroes event, we noticed that Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Panettiere were canoodling with each other the whole time, whispering back and forth like giddy schoolkids. But, we chalked it up to nerves and confusion about what was going on during the Q&A. For instance, Milo's answer to "How has Heroes changed your life?" was "I don't really know what to say." Nice. Our tabloid-papparazzo circuit wasn't working properly that day and anyhow, now it's official. The brother/sister set of Peter Petrelli and Claire Bennet are Hollywood's newest incestuous power couple. At least until Sylar swoops in and eats their brains, hoping to gain some of their couple-of-the-moment pheromones. More »
