Sorry, I wasn't around to participateto the party... I was at a Dream Theater last night, and it was the best concert in my life. I was in an amazing mood, and even the dreadful opening act (Periphery) couldn't bring me down. The guys from Dream Theater are among the best musician I know, their compositions are breathtaking, and the night was perfect... #observationdeck(Edit comment)
(In general I don't like Dream Theater, but I do respect them because every one of them is a huge musician. Yet I'd like to see a concert only because they are really good at what they do. ) #observationdeck
OK Folks, it's been way too long since we've had an #io9karaoke or an #io9danceparty, so let me try to kick one into gear here. What are you listening to? What were they playing at the club you just came in from? What are the cool kids listening to on iTunes? I'll throw out a few and ask you all to join in my #insomniaclub and post some videos for us to enjoy, Firstly, let do Pink!
Note: I posted all this last night (early this morning actually) but the Gawkerkraken ate all three posts. I'm ready for a breakfast of calamari at this point, but I'm sure I don't have enough cocktail sauce to dress a Kraken with so I'll just try to repost them . . .
Lastly for me, I wanted to post one of my weird videos related to mash-ups between country and dance. I'm a fan of Hick-Hop and Alt-Country, or anything in between. Therefore here's "Cotton-Eyed Joe" by the European band, The Rednex.
Evanesence is one of my favorite bands, but I'm having difficulty getting into their latest album. This video is helping though. Regardless, I still want to have Amy Lee's love child . . .
This has been playing constantly on my local top-40 station. Creepy lyrics, catchy melody. I find myself humming it and creep myself out. #observationdeck(Edit comment)
I'm not a big fan of that song (I thin that if it was a rap song, people would have reacted much differently) but I'm glad I gave them another shot because I love this song. #observationdeck(Edit comment)
I hate the attention that comes from Facebook-notifications - half of them are just "oh, he has a birthday today! Better greet him". I like the SMS's that my "real friends" send me, and the personal ones on facebook (the ones going further than "Happy birthday").
You could head off the attention by wishing every one a happy DĂa de los Muertos. Celebrated today and tomorrow. So really great food and a lot of cool traditions. [en.wikipedia.org]#observationdeck(Edit comment)
No, you're not the only one. I usually take the day off, and go have a quiet lunch somewhere with a couple family members -- I really like the beach, so I have one place I always go to, where I can sit, have lunch, and watch the waves roll in.
Also, my birthday is April 1st, and I am more than tired of the stupid jokes that surround that holiday, so the less attention, the better. #observationdeck(Edit comment)
Really?! Titanic is actually really good. Definitely worth watching, the settings are so amazing - and it's really cool watching it all get torn down when the (SPOILER!!!!111) boat sinks. #observationdeck(Edit comment)
I honestly had someone get mad at me for 'spoilering' Titanic by mentioning the ship sank. My reply of, "It's history, I can't spoiler it! I mean, the Titanic sinks, Harvey Milk and Michael Collins both get shot, and Alexander loses in Afghanistan before dying of a fever!" did not improve things. #observationdeck(Edit comment)
I went to go see Titanic when I was 12 and my brother was 10. Apparently he hadn't gotten to the Titanic yet in history class. He remained convinced for years that I spoiled the movie for him by telling him the ship sunk. I argue that he should have just been happy that my Dad took us to see Titanic unaware that he would be showing his ten-year-old son Kate Winslet's boobs. #observationdeck(Edit comment)
I went on a date to see Jackson's King Kong. While in line, I mentioned somehow that the ape bites it big in the end. Both my date and her friend who was with us looked at me, slack-jawed, and exclaimed, "Thanks for ruining the movie for us!"
My kid sister was there, too. She made the Titanic analogy as well. How the hell do you spoil an 80-year-old movie?
Incidentally, sis has criticized my taste in women for a while now. (Edit comment)
I'd say that anything a) based on historical events or b) based on a story that is over 30 years old doesn't count as spoilers. Obviously, YMMV, but personally, although I'm a person who generally avoids spoilers, I think that if a story that old or based on reality is compelling enough to revisit, than it probably can survive a spoiler.
I mean, do we really expect people who haven't seen any of the Star Wars films to not know by now that Vader is Luke's father? (Edit comment)
Also Roommate is really a cheap drunk. She's had like 3 drinks and is all weeeeeeeeeeee. I've had four and I'm talkin business. #observationdeck(Edit comment)
Sadly for you I'm too sober now to get into the pompous stuff. Let's just say it had to do with pitching a comic and certain pretentious adjectives the other person was using and leave it at that. #observationdeck(Edit comment)
Since it's the weekend, I thought I share Happy Hour Dalek with the 'deck. The problem with drunken Daleks is they get even more belligerent when intoxicated!

I watched the live-action Avater: tLA just now. Perhaps it's because I'm drunk, but it wasn't trerrible. Of course, had I not already watched the animated series it wouldn't have made a lick of sense.
Odd, but I've heard a couple of Prisoner related songs recently and for some reason they just came to mind. So I've embedded one [points to left], although to be honest I prefer this: Executive legs:Prisoner [executivelegs.bandcamp.com]
It is also quite possible I may be slightly #drunkio9 :) atm, so apologies for general silliness #observationdeck
(Umm... unrelated, but embedded Viddler doesn't seem to be working at all atm. Tried it in both Chrome and Opera and I just get the static thumb/placemark image instead of the full player. If I work out the source url it plays fine, but that kind of defeats the purpose of embedding. Not sure which end the problems at, just mentioning it (might be me, as I say I'm not sure)) (Edit comment)
There have been a few posts about Green Lantern so I want to share this.
When I first heard about GL I really didn't care. I tend to like comic book/superhero movies, but GL was never something that I got into. Then I read the original screenplay (or what I think is the original). What I read in that script totally turned me around. I went from a "meh" on GL to "I really want to see it." Then I actually watched it. Ugh. I didn't hate it (it was no Pirates 4) but what I watched compared to what I read was like the blackest night compared to the brightest day (I had to do it, you understand).
So I will say this: io9ers, before you go see this movie, take a few hours and read the screenplay at the link and you can compare what could have been to what was.
I found the scene of his father's death significantly more effective than in the film. I was almost in tears while I was reading it. #observationdeck(Edit comment)
I just had to share this.

I have a 6 pack of this and am happy to donate it to any O-decker in need tonight
I'll be drinking Oatmeal stout, takes a lot less volume for the same effect. If it's the right one, one is all you really need. ;)

Today is my birthday. Am I the only one who doesn't really like all the attention heaped on them during their special day?
ETA: I realized how counter-intuitive it is to announce that it's my birthday while discussing a dislike for attention on said day. D'oh.
