The threatened sequel to the Fright Night remake slinks out on October 1st, but only on DVD and Blu-ray. This is no great loss, because as you'll see if you watch the trailer, Fright Night 2: New Blood is another remake of the original, but this time "Gerri Dandrige" is a sexy lady vampire!
Here's the summary (although if you've seen either Fright Night, you know most of it):
By day Gerri Dandridge (Jaime Murray) is a sexy professor, but by night she transforms into a real-life vampire with an unquenchable thirst for human blood. So when a group of high school students travel abroad to study in Romania, they find themselves ensnared in Gerri's chilling web of lust and terror. Charley and "Evil" Ed must stop Gerri from drinking and bathing in the blood of a "new moon virgin," which just so happens to be Charley's ex-girlfriend, Amy. They enlist help from Peter Vincent, the vampire hunting host of a reality show called "Fright Night," to drive a stake through Gerri's plan and save Amy from a fate far worse than death.
So plot-wise, the setting is different, and that's it. As you can see in the trailer, there are more boobs than there were in the first two Fright Nights, and that's also the only noticeable difference.
Honestly I don't know if this is an actual sequel to the Fright Night remake, continuing the adventures the exact same gang of people in pretty much the exact same situation facing yet another vampire who happens to have the last name of Dandridge, or if they think we are willing to watch Fright Night a third time with Jaime Murray (who really deserves better than this after her awesome turns on Dexter and Defiance) in the vampire role, and I honestly don't know which is worse.
FYI: Peter Vincent, the role played so memorably by Roddy McDowell and David Tennant previously, is now played by Sean Power, whose biggest role seems to be 1993's Michael J. Fox vehicle and non-smash Life with Mikey. So that's... something.
