In science fiction, everybody's always running and flying and questing, and time is always running out. So that makes those occasions when our space heroes and future warriors take the time to kick back and relax in a bar that much more alluring. There's nothing like a tall cold one when you're fighting the Dark Side. More »

We've all seen the predictions — both fictional and pseudoarcheological — that the world will end in 2012. But while some of science fiction's predictions for the year 2012 are apocalyptic, some are merely disastrous — and a few are downright upbeat. Let's see what triumphs and tribulations science fiction says we can look forward to in the coming year. More »

Yesterday's Futurama found Bender on the path to omniscience, as an attempt to improve his video game abilities made him a robot god. The man behind Walter Bishop, John Noble, proves that the real world is just as demented as Fringe's bizarre science, as he hosts a new show featuring "twisted but true" stories. MTV gives us C.O.P.S. with zombies and werewolves. And meanwhile, the Doctor ventures into a child's scary bedroom, on Doctor Who. And both True Blood and Torchwood race towards their huge season finales. <a href="http://io9.com/5835248/this-weeks-tv-fringes-john-noble-explores-the-weirdest-real+life-science-plus-a-wizard-battle-on-adventure-time" title="Click here to read more about This Week's TV: Fringe's John Noble explores the weirdest real-life science. Yesterday's Futurama revealed Dr. Zoidberg and the Professor's secret history, a shocking tale involving murder pacts, alien Yetis, and some perfectly innocent covert biological weapons research. We've all heard of The Klingon Hamlet, a real book that contains a Klingon translation of the text side-by-side with the English version. Some of us have even been . . . let's say 'lucky' enough to see it performed. But what other famous works would be better rendered in science fictional languages? We've got some suggestions. More »

Yesterday's Futurama took us on a psychedelic, president-licking journey through time, space, and disturbingly British alternate futures, complete with a rope-dealing Thomas Jefferson, vomiting Ulysses S. Grant, elbow-fetishizing James Madison, and badger-wielding Benjamin Franklin. Now that's what I call history! More »

Last week's episode of Futurama showed Fry becoming a cop and dispensing justice Tron-style. During a high-speed motorcycle pursuit, he and his partner chase a suspect to a place called Fresnel Circle. Suddenly, the man splits into many different versions of himself, all going in expanded, concentric rings around the circle. What's going on? Yesterday's Futurama gleefully smashed together parodies of such modern sci-fi classics as Minority Report, Avatar, Tron...and, uh, Police Academy. The Banach-Tarski Dupla-Shrinker recently made an appearance on an episode of Futurama. Using it, Bender got to make two, slightly smaller, copies of himself. The smaller Benders are why they added the 'shrinker' part of the name. The actual Banach-Tarski theorem allows an object to spawn a perfect copy of itself, at its exact size, just by being chopped into bits. More »
