Here's the first official still from the TV pilot based on Powers, the comic-book police procedural set in a world of superheroes. There have been a lot of attempts to create a successful superhero show on television lately, but this could be the one that hits. More »

An anonymous tipster has sent us what appears to be the pilot script for FX's adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Oeming's cop-and-superheroes series Powers. It reads like the real deal, complete with a heaping dollop of cable grime. More »

Joss Whedon Launching A New Show On FX?

Could Joss Whedon have finally come to his senses and realized that cable TV will give him the chance to tell edgy stories without compromising and facing the constant spectre of cancellation? We can only hope. FX President of Entertainment John Landgraf told the TV Critics Association tour the other day that he's planning on having a lunch meeting with Whedon in a few weeks. Let's hope it's a fruitful meeting - we're excited by the idea of Whedon creating more online-only content like Dr. Horrible, but we need our hour-a-week fix of the Whedonverse. This industrial sea-going ship provided inspiration for special effects designers working on the spaceships in Battlestar Galactica. Designer Mojo describes how in a recent blog post about how he makes Battlestar's ships look realistic by imitating the "self-lighting" look of this ship, which is illuminated only by its own onboard lights. Want to see the spaceship that was directly inspired by this image? More »

If you haven't seen John Carpenter's classic The Thing, which shows you just how scary a remote Antarctic ice station can be when a parasitic alien thaws out, you should. If you have seen it, then you'll recognize this sucker designed by FX whiz Rob Bottin. Remember when Kurt Russell starts testing everyone's blood to see if they've become infected and have shapeshifted into an alien? Well, this is what pops out of the petri dish in one of those "shit your pants" screen moments, and it can be yours for the semi-outrageous opening bid of $3,499.00. Although there's no certificate of authenticity, there is a very nice glass case, which might explain the upcharge. If it were made out of diamond.
