This may look like your average German suburb on a quiet day, but it's actually a planned community 30 kilometers outside of Shanghai. This is Anting German Town, a one-square-kilometer residential development founded in 2001 and built specifically to resemble a little slice of Deutschland. There's only one problem for this quirky Teutonic oasis —nobody wants to live there. More »

A dog can accurately detect the early presence of lung cancer by sniffing patients' breath, doctors in Germany say. While researchers have known for some time that dogs can sniff out the telltale signs of other forms of cancer, this is the first study that proves dogs can reliably smell this particular kind. More »

It's been 25 years since Chernobyl fallout contaminated flora and fauna in Europe, but German hunting officials are still dealing with rising numbers of radioactive wild boars. The Einstein Tower in Potsdam, Germany was built by architect Eric Mendelsohn between 1920-1921. The tower, which researches solar magnetic fields, was inspired by Albert Einstein's study of relativity, but it's unknown whether Einstein approved of its design. More »

We recently posted about Michigan's Prehistoric Forest, a dilapidated amusement park full of decaying fiberglass dinosaurs. In this architectural mockup, the strange, 0-shaped building is Hamburg's new science center. It looks sort of like alien technology, but it's Earth-friendly, designed by futurist Rem Koolhaus to have lots of pro-environmental features. It's also giant. There are 250,000 square feet in there, packed into ten modular blocks that form the huge ring. German railroad company Deutsche Bahn has its headquarters right in the heart of Berlin's Washingtonplaz. For a redesign, the company chose this cubic construction by Danish architecture firm 3xn. Very, very cube-y on the outside, but the inside is surprisingly airy. Go inside after the jump. More »
