Roland Emmerich Is Rebooting Stargate With A New Movie Trilogy

It looks like Stargate is about to lose its status as one of the major movie franchises that have never been rebooted. Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin are officially returning to the world of Stargate with a "re-imagined" trilogy of films.

According to Deadline, MGM and Warner Bros. have announced that Emmerich will be directing and Devlin will be producing the trio of films, which MGM's Gary Barber says will "bring their reinvigorated vision of this wildly popular property to audiences of multiple generations." There's no word on what the focus of the new films will be or what direction they're taking with the reboot. Emmerich and Devlin simply issued this statement:

The Stargate universe is one that we missed terribly, and we cannot wait to get going on imagining new adventures and situations for the trilogy. This story is very close to our hearts, and getting the chance to revisit this world is in many ways like a long lost child that has found its way back home.
