Would you like to see a bit of Studio Ghibli's newest film The Wind Rises and know what the hell is going on? Well, today is your lucky day, because the first English-subtitled trailer has finally arrived.

The film, which has been #1 at the Japanese box office for the last four weeks, is a fictional biography of Jiro Horikoshi, who designed the Mitsubishi A6M Zero plane used by the Imperial Navy in World War II. Before you get any ideas that the film is somehow pro-Japan or pro-WWII, you should know that Miyazaki's traditional anti-war message is definitely present, and so strong that it's led some Japanese audiences to call the film "anti-Japanese."

Miyazaki explained why he chose to make a movie about Horikoshi in a 2011 interview: “One day, I heard that Horikoshi had once murmured, ‘All I wanted to do was to make something beautiful.’ And then I knew I’d found my subject.”

Anyways, subtitles. Yay!
