Hurtling Toward The Ruins Of The Broken Moon

Every time she returned home, she was tempted to swing past the space station and land on the broken moon and plumb its ancient caverns. Perhaps the next time she had a week's worth of holiday chits, she'd blow it on an amateur excavation.

This image is "Dark Shepherd Moon" and it comes from concept artist Fred Gambino's upcoming concept art book Dark Shepherd: The Art of Fred Gambino, which is available for pre-order on Amazon. The book is part retrospective and part concept art book as Gambino revisits his career as a concept artist (most recently on Guardians of the Galaxy) and illustrates scenes from his own ongoing story Dark Shepherd.

Here's the actual text that goes with this image:

Ahead now, a truly ominous lump of rock, battered and twisted by endless collisions during countless millennia, its shadowed side etched against the golden wall of the cloud canyon.

You can see more artwork from Dark Shepherd at Gambino's website.
