Ithaca, New York—home to hoards of vegetarians, well-educated social liberals, and the citizens hope, an organized system of eco-friendly podcards by the year 2010. (Ooh, just like in Woody Allen’s Sleepers!) Here’s how it’d work: Each car would carry 2 to 10 riders who type in their destinations on a computer pad. The vehicle, which can make stops every half-mile or so, would take the riders directly to where they want to be. In other words, you’re always on the express train. Will it really happen in just two years? More »
