The author of the Harry Potter books has finally admitted that she had murderous plans for poor old Ron Weasley. Why? Well that's simple: A.) because she can; and B.) because she was in a bad mood. <a href="http://io9.com/5855210/jk-rowling-wanted-to-kill-ron-weasley" title="Click here to read more about J.K.
The Most Frequently Banned or Challenged Science Fiction and Fantasy Books of 2010

It's Banned Books Week, and the American Library Association has a list of the most frequently "banned or challenged" books of each year, from 2001 to 2010. And the list is pretty interesting reading — the Harry Potter books were on top of the list in 2001 and 2002, then dropped to number two in 2003, only to vanish off the list in 2004. (Obviously all that sorcery paid off eventually.) More »

Sometimes we're apt to see fantasy and science fiction as eternally under siege and in danger of being driven out by a harsh, unforgiving market. But many SF/fantasy authors are doing incredibly well, and plenty of others are holding steady. Over at the Clarion Foundation blog, literary agent Russell Galen with Scovil Galen Ghoush Literary Agency gives one possible explanation for why some SF/fantasy authors connect better with wider audiences. <a href="http://io9.com/5761739/jk-rowlings-secret-of-writing-fantasy-for-mainstream-readers" title="Click here to read more about J.K. An never-finished story by Roald Dahl, the master of haunting fiction, has turned up, and you could own the original manuscript. Plus the project he wrote it for, a finish-it-yourself story collection featuring Madeleine L'Engle, could still come out. More »

Kathryn Hudson has recast the characters of J.K. Rowling's books as participants in a highfalutin space opera. Harold J. Artist Adam Brockbank has posted a vast array of the concept illustrations he did for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, ranging from the Weasleys' whimsical toys to the gruesome Inferi... along with a scene that didn't make the movie. More »

Josh Koury's documentary "We Are Wizards" delves into the genre of Wizard Rock. As homespun as the fan culture it celebrates, it's an endearing snapshot of the freaks and geeks who've made a place for themselves in the Potter fan-verse. More »

If Doctor Who's head writer Russell T. Davies had had his way, the next episode of the time-travel action-comedy would have starred Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. Not only that, but Rowling would have dragged David Tennant's Doctor into the Potter universe. But that's not the only shocking revelation in Davies' newly released emails to a journalist working with him on a book about producing Who. There's also the identity of the man whom Davies thinks should be the next Doctor. More »
