				The Eichler X-100 model home was <a href="http://www.eichlernetwork.com/ENStry12.html">opened to the public in October 1956</a>. Built in San Mateo, California, and bearing the name of dairy-wholesaler-turned-developer Joseph Eichler, the house was a tribute to modern design and included "such innovations as a revolving fireplace, one entire wall of glass, a plastic skylight like a bomber bubble, two indoor gardens, electrically operated sliding doors that replace all windows, and steel-frame construction to eliminate the need for load bearing walls," according to a contemporary article in the <em>Wall Street Journal</em>.
