Marvel Studios producer Louis D’Esposito recently mentioned the idea of doing a Captain Marvel movie. Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff recently revealed she's in talks with Disney/Marvel for... something. Is this the first inkling that we're getting a Katee Sackhoff-led Captain Marvel flick? God I hope so.
Let me clarify how vague this all is. Here's what D’Esposito told Coming Soon about superheroine-led Marvel films:
“There’s obviously a drumbeat that is banging louder and louder that we want a female lead superhero,” he says. ”… [W]e have strong female characters in our films from Black Widow to Pepper Potts to Peggy Carter and you never know. Maybe there’s an offshoot film with one of them. Or Captain Marvel, you know?”
So really, he's just vaguely conceding it's a possibility (which is exactly what he'd say if he were secretly planning a movie... but also what he'd say if Marvel were merely considering it). But here's when the Schmoes Know Podcast asked Katee Sackhoff about her possible involvement in a Marvel movie, she responded that she'd been in talks with Disney and there had been "a lot of checking of availability for the first quarter of next year".
So... yeah. It's plausible, but by no means probable at this point. Still, I'm guessing Avengers 2: Age of Ultron will begin filming early next year. What better place to introduce Carol Danvers for a Phase 3 Captain Marvel movie? Oh please happen please happen please please please
