NBC is basing a show on the movie Outbreak

Remember Outbreak, the 1995 disease thriller that was less about science, and more about monkeys and heartfelt Dustin Hoffman speeches? Well, that movie is getting its own television drama! Why? Because coming up with new ideas is HARD, OK?

According to Deadline, John Wells and Jack Orman (the crackpot producers behind ER) are ready to get back into the medical drama business with an Outbreak show. Based on the 1995 novel — let's hope the producers do a little updating because after Contagion, we feel like the "viral outbreak" game has been raised a bit.

The series will be on NBC as an hour-long drama. No word on whether the Monkey is a recurring character.
