@Annalee Newitz: I always thought LOTR had a good Autumn quality to it, plus its long, so you kinda want to just sit ang veg-out to a mobie while the itis takes control. Maybe something from the 70's like Logun's Run or Colossus: The Forbin Project
@Annalee Newitz: i love disaster movie marathons on holidays. Start with the core, the day after tomorrow, 28 days later and then finish with independance day. Make sure you're drunk by the time it comes to Bill's "we will not go quietly into the night" speech!
@Annalee Newitz: Well, after we watch the Lions lose, our family usually does a marathon of historical movie epics. Like Ben-Hur, Spartacus, Kingdom of Heaven and Master and Commander. It's just one of those things that organically developed over time.
@Annalee Newitz: We usually pick one trilogy and watch it all the way through, the good and bad ones. Robocop,Indiana jones,Star Wars, Star Trek, LOTR, Alien, Godfather,X-men, National Lampoon's and way too many more to list.
@Annalee Newitz: I make people watch 'Lost Skeleton of Cadavra' every Thanksgiving, I always manage to find at least one person who hasn't seen it. It ends up getting quoted while we eat, it's awesome.
What is the perfect science fiction movie to watch on Thanksgiving?

(Edit comment)@fullsoul: LOTR - absolutely. And then for counterprogramming purposes, maybe something like Galaxy of Terror.

(Edit comment)@fullsoul: We alwasy watch LOTR over new years. Only way I can stay up late.

(Edit comment)@Annalee Newitz: Ridley Scott's "Alien" (1979)

(Edit comment)@Annalee Newitz: We always watch March of the Wooden Soldiers as the first movie of the Christmas season (and therefore: first movie on Thanksgiving).
100% scifi. Laurel and Hardy stave off an invasion of degenerate morlocks using an army of giant robots.
Also, a monkey dressed up as a mouse with a tiny zeppelin and an armful of grenades.
It is AMAZING.

(Edit comment)@CodenameV: Just watching that alien burst outta Kane just makes me want to go back for seconds on the turkey.

(Edit comment)@Annalee Newitz: Most obviously, Spider-Man 1 for the Thanksgiving scene.
There's a domestic squabble, blood, and Norman Osborn brandishing knives; just like my Thanksgivings.
