Yeah, I was going to say Bernie Hanson was my favorite Ghostbuster...
"I challenge you to a beat-off" . . . wow, just, wow . . .
Ok, now Lucas is just trolling us, I'm certain of it . . . don't feed the trolls!
So, wait . . . first, Apple isn't open enough, too closed of a system, hence the popularity of the "open" Android OS . . . now, Apple is too open? Make up your mind, my head's spinning :)

Have to agree with aaverett's comment here, "Apple does not give out your address book. By downloading an app that makes use of that information, YOU, the user, do."

So, Apple could have noticed this practice going on and rejected the app. But, many say the App Store is too stringent to begin with. I'm seeing a lot of having-it-both-ways here . . . Apple's damned if they do, damned if they don't in many eyes.

Personally, I can't wait for this show. I fear that it will go the way of "Journeyman" though . . . NBC doesn't have a great track record with these kinds of shows.
Can't believe I'd forgotten about them . . . you win, sir.
I'll see your "Surface" and raise you "Invasion" . . . the always awesome William Fitchner as the creepy sheriff, James Frain late in the season as the mysterious alien big-bad, Tyler Labine as the conspiracy-theorist comic relief, was a great show while it lasted. It was a crime to end the show the way they did on the cliffhanger, never got any resolution, that one still stings a bit.
You've, uhm, got some red on you...
Well said, well said. I've had the same overall thoughts to most of the other Gawker sites for a while now, stopped reading Gizmodo a while back mainly for the same reasons . . . became more of a place to try and generate page-views and stir up controversy than the place it once was for helpful reviews and news. Kotaku has been moving that way, albeit more slowly, but I think I'm in the same boat as well. I still have my io9, though :)
This, 1000x this.

Owen, I'm usually on your side on things, we're both NC State Alum from the same period, and we tend to think alike on a lot of things. I can't seem to agree with a single thing in this article, though, and personally I'd love to see if Krahulik feels the need to respond to this attack in kind.

*on reading any news on Season 2 Game of Thrones*

Hodor, Hodor, HODOR, HODOR!!!! HO-DOR!!!!

I recommend the movie "The Squid and The Whale", kind of a similar theme. Josh Hartnett plays a young man with autism/aspergers, and it's about his relationship with another girl he meets also with Aspergers. Having children with moderate autism (oldest) and aspergers (youngest), they did a good job portraying the disability.

This was a great article, though, very well written and gives me hope that my kids, once they get older, will still be able to find that special person to make them happy and love them for who they are.

Last numbers I saw for WoW subscribers was 10.3 million in November . . . noted [www.gamasutra.com]

Of course, they are still trending down, I don't think anyone would dispute that, but I don't know if I buy them losing 3 million subs in the last month. Especially after Blizzcon and the "annual pass" they announced giving people a free copy of Diablo and in-game mount. For all of those mounts I've seen on my server, they had a TON of people commit to that. So, yeah, i'd like to see the citation showing curent subs are down to 7 milllion.

I prefer the Restaurant at the End of the Universe, actually...
Agreed, you do need to purchase the game, never said you didn't. When you purchase it online as a digital download, you still get the registration key. Of course, WoW's a little different now that you can download the whole game free and play to level 20 without purchasing a thing - you only purchase the key once you want to progress past that really. So, I guess my point is that why can't this "pre-launch" code that I got be my regular game access code? If I paid full price for the game already (and not a $5 pre-order) I shouldn't need to have multiple codes that might get mixed up, lost, delayed, whatever.

On a new game like this that just came out, I can get the install-from-disc vs. download, but as the game goes on the amount of stuff it needs to download anyway in the form of patches and expansions, it's actually quicker to download the most current client rather than install from disc and go through all the patches. I had to set up WoW a couple of times on a new computer, and the first time I installed from my Classic WoW and Burning Crusade discs. Took literally hours, as it had to download all the patches for those before it would let me install Lich King. I set it up again later after a hard-drive wipe, and decided to just download the clients instead. Still took a while, but it was faster since it only downloaded the most current and fully patched versions.

And, chances are, if you're playing online games, you've got a pretty decent pipe to your house. The download portion of my early-access install of SWTOR really wasn't too bad, maybe 15-20 minutes of the course of the whole install process was actually download time.

Good point, easy proof as to registration. Copies of email sales receipts or original registration codes could be spoofed too easily. My registration came in an email from Amazon after getting the pre-order, but to Bioware's defense that could easily be changed on a forward (you can change the text, name all that inside the forwarded message). So, yeah, I can see having physical discs and registration cards for that purpose.
My pre-order with Amazon was full price, not just $5. If I paid full-price for the game already, then why would I need a separate registration code? What you've said certainly makes sense, just seems there should have been a better way to go about things . . . and I think Bioware has already come out saying as much with their apologies and "grace period". Not knocking the game, just that the whole early access thing could have probably been handled better.
I certainly understand from a collector's edition, getting all the extra swag.
One question . . . why, if you did a pre-order, do you need a physical disc at all? Most things are moving to digital delivery anyway, and if you pre-ordered (like myself) you're already in the game . . . why do I even need another registration code that I have to enter within 2 days of the launch to run it when I'm already in? And, I'll get a game disc that I'll never use. Not to throw out another Warcraft comparison, but you can get in that game completely up to the newest expansion without having to have a single physical disc.

But, yeah, I started my early-access just yesterday (real-life hasn't allow the time to get started until today really) and it's running LOADS better than the beta weekend that soured my experience. I didn't have any trouble getting on a server and starting up right away, but again, I just chose a server that had room, not like others who wanted a specific server and wanted to get into the ones that were already full. I'm sure the server I'm on will fill up before long anyway, but I've had no issues to speak of.

OMG, that Robot Chicken Dora the Explorer clip was incredible . . . the only thing I would have added was them eating Boots or Swiper while trapped on the mountain. We watched WAY too much Dora when my kids were little, so seeing her get what's coming to her is warming to my heart :)
