Have to agree with aaverett's comment here, "Apple does not give out your address book. By downloading an app that makes use of that information, YOU, the user, do."
So, Apple could have noticed this practice going on and rejected the app. But, many say the App Store is too stringent to begin with. I'm seeing a lot of having-it-both-ways here . . . Apple's damned if they do, damned if they don't in many eyes.
Owen, I'm usually on your side on things, we're both NC State Alum from the same period, and we tend to think alike on a lot of things. I can't seem to agree with a single thing in this article, though, and personally I'd love to see if Krahulik feels the need to respond to this attack in kind.
Hodor, Hodor, HODOR, HODOR!!!! HO-DOR!!!!
This was a great article, though, very well written and gives me hope that my kids, once they get older, will still be able to find that special person to make them happy and love them for who they are.
Of course, they are still trending down, I don't think anyone would dispute that, but I don't know if I buy them losing 3 million subs in the last month. Especially after Blizzcon and the "annual pass" they announced giving people a free copy of Diablo and in-game mount. For all of those mounts I've seen on my server, they had a TON of people commit to that. So, yeah, i'd like to see the citation showing curent subs are down to 7 milllion.
On a new game like this that just came out, I can get the install-from-disc vs. download, but as the game goes on the amount of stuff it needs to download anyway in the form of patches and expansions, it's actually quicker to download the most current client rather than install from disc and go through all the patches. I had to set up WoW a couple of times on a new computer, and the first time I installed from my Classic WoW and Burning Crusade discs. Took literally hours, as it had to download all the patches for those before it would let me install Lich King. I set it up again later after a hard-drive wipe, and decided to just download the clients instead. Still took a while, but it was faster since it only downloaded the most current and fully patched versions.
And, chances are, if you're playing online games, you've got a pretty decent pipe to your house. The download portion of my early-access install of SWTOR really wasn't too bad, maybe 15-20 minutes of the course of the whole install process was actually download time.
But, yeah, I started my early-access just yesterday (real-life hasn't allow the time to get started until today really) and it's running LOADS better than the beta weekend that soured my experience. I didn't have any trouble getting on a server and starting up right away, but again, I just chose a server that had room, not like others who wanted a specific server and wanted to get into the ones that were already full. I'm sure the server I'm on will fill up before long anyway, but I've had no issues to speak of.
