<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on The True Meaning of Starbuck's Bonfire]]> i'm going to bet that they're not going to use a scientific explanation for her appearance. mystical? yes. scientific? no. this is ron moore. who "half-godded" Avery Brooks, in "Images in the Sand".

<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on How Battlestar Copied (And Improved On) Star Trek: Deep Space Nine]]> @ManchuCandidate: I was going to say the same, anytime anything negative about trek is said, damn Trekkies lose their shit. I being one of them, can say that I just really appreciate what the shows did for me and taught me about optimism, equality, justice, pragmatism, and spirituality and that none of these have to contradict the others. Who stole what from what and when is irrelevant. Star Wars is The Hidden Fortress, B5 stole from LOTR, The Matrix ripped off anime in general. Of course Trek is flawed. Most trekkies don't know how much of a control freak and asshole Roddenberry was (I'm reading a great book right now by Harlan Ellison called City on The Edge of Forever where he tells the story of what really happened to his story, and holy shit does that man hate Gene. It includes the original script, before D.C. Fontana was asked to rewrite it, I recommend it to EVERYONE who likes good sci-fi or any Trekkies in need of a little awakening on the real history of Trek. Shatner's Star Trek memories be damned.)

<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on How Battlestar Copied (And Improved On) Star Trek: Deep Space Nine]]> Haha. Try watching any season of DS9 and then watch voyager. Make sure there are no sharp objects present, for the desire to ram it straight into your eye will be strong. Then watch how Janeway always makes her stupid 20th century comparisons: "Then we'll open a pathway in the subtronium matrix, -CLAPS HANDS- Exactly! Just like a trout, jumping upstream!" Every. Single. Episode. AGGGH!

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on How Battlestar Copied (And Improved On) Star Trek: Deep Space Nine]]> I mean, don't get me wrong, I love B5. I recently started watching it (i was rabid pro-ds9 for so long I refused go down that path) and I've liked the tone, and what feels more like what a real space station would be like. I'm still in the first season, and have been told that it gets better with time. DS9 on the other hand. Except for the bajoran episodes in the first two seasons, it's all crap. crap crap crap. But after they get the defiant (season 3) things start to look up. There are still some big stinkers in season 3, and less in season 4, but when they hit season 5, it all starts to make sense. You finally think "Hey, they finally know what to do with these people." And season 6 and 7 are damned near perfection. I am rewatching season 6 currently, and will soon be going on to season 7 (prob next week) and I am looking forward to every minute.

<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on How Battlestar Copied (And Improved On) Star Trek: Deep Space Nine]]> DS9 is amazing and folds above all the other trek. I was raised watching TOS and TNG as a child and DS9 was the only series that spoke to me as an ADULT even ten years after it ended. I am going to the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas next month not to visit Ten Forward, but QUARKS. I LOVE Battlestar. It's fantastic. Better than DS9. BUT DO NOT CUT IT SHORT. Our favorite show would not exist without DS9. And I will say I even think over time, ultimately, DS9 dealt with sacrifice and genre ideas 100x better than battlestar, which was limited to very specific ideas (which made it unique, but also limited in it's scope) I love Adama, but Far Beyond the Stars is one of the most important moments in Sci-fi that have ever happened. VOYAGER did nothing like that. Even TNG was lacking in pushing the envelope. B5 is good. Really good. But ultimately, Babylon 5 does not have the creative drive, or ingenuity that DS9 had. Period.

<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on The Gun-Wizard Badass That Could Be YOU, In New Wanted Trailer]]> has anyone even read the comic? it's totally different. completely. There's a SHIT MONSTER in the comic. worker drone? WHAAA? The only thing that this movie shares with the comic is the name.

<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Could Spider-Man Be Going Back To High School?]]> hmm. I'm thinking this whole Marvel Studios thing is looking, maybe, a bit bigger than we had anticipated? feels kinda like Ulitmate Spidey to me. Could they be setting up for all of the Marvel Movies to cross over? Iron Man was pretty much the Ultimate character. Hulk looks to be the same. Cappy, Thor, Avengers, Wolvie, Magneto? Maybe we're seeing the birth of the Marvel Movie universe, which is essentially just the Ultimate Universe, filmed. (Except Tony Stark isn't blue and can't regrow his limbs.)

<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Brian K. Vaughn's Runaways Will Be Angsty Movie]]> OH and how soon is the self mutilation power going to go the way of the dodo? I say two months into pre-production. anyone else?

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Brian K. Vaughn's Runaways Will Be Angsty Movie]]> I really don't see how you can fuck this one up. it's like x-men meets the lost boys meets the dreamers. perfect. The characters are also just cartoony enough for a casting director to understand (ZING!) I think this film and Scott Pilgrim need to be watched back to back, for maximum young people are awesome and kick lots of ass FLAVA.

<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on What Scifi Plot Should Indiana Jones Steal Next?]]> ok, so for anyone who's seen it.. WTF?

They used the original set-up for the time machine in Back to the Future. I'll I'm gonna say is, Indy + Refrigerator? Is that stealing your own idea? (Supposedly Spielberg liked the concept, but poo-pooed it because he didn't want kids climbing into fridges.) Oh man, I laughed for like 2 minutes. Not to mention, that diner, SAME EXACT SET as Cafe 50's in Back to the Future.

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Are Conservatives Better at Creating Futuristic Stories?]]> holy crap i love hyperion and also startide rising. human/dolphin love anybody?

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Are Conservatives Better at Creating Futuristic Stories?]]> I would say no. No, nO, and NO. Those are pretty much the only examples I can think of and the term "Better" hardly describes any of them. The only one I think is even remotely interesting is Atlas Shrugged, if only for the pun in the title. I kid, I like Rand (not her politics. I just admire her for her good story.) Though the Fountainhead I think is more substantial. Sci-fi that is liberal seems to out wiegh heavily the conservative stories, at least in volume. That volume I believe creates a much higher percentage of quality liberal works. And what about the tendency of conservative writers setting out with conservative ideals actually writing themselves into liberal ideas? (ender's game, *shudders* netforce)

<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on No More BSG TV Movies, Please]]> I thought Razor was kind of cheesy. Seriously, the melodrama was inches thicker than the show usually is. And whats her face biting it in the end? there's a reason we never saw her. Also what new information was gathered other than the fact the Adama saw the first Skinjob years ago? The whole harbinger of death, this has all happened before and all will happen again was repeated numerous times in numerous places. just seemed superfluous to me. The only thing I felt was mildly important were the scenes with michelle forbes, giving emotional context to her giant *SNAP* "I love executing my own officers" mode which seemed a little forced given these are the last people ALIVE ANYWHERE, was for me the highlight of the whole affair that they know. (love that she's part of the lostverse now! and always loved her as ro! would have been great if she had taken the DS9 job.)

<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Is Speed Racer Just Too Gay?]]> @Jack: I agree with you wholeheartedly. I know you're trying to be sarcastic Annalee but come on? You had to know some people would have a knee jerk on this one. Words hold lots of power with lots of different loaded meanings. Your the editor of this site, and you've been very smart about dealing with "teh gay" topics in the past, it just seemed this one could have been approached from a different place.

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Is Speed Racer Just Too Gay?]]> well, a guy, ME, did. but it doesn't mean that I can't notice the HUGE CAPITAL LETTER misogyny bleeding from every edge of iron man. charge it to me being a bleeding heart liberal who has lots of conflicting thoughts about my "owning the whole of the 70's era Iron Man" self, with my anti-military industrial complex self. How does someone reconcile such hardcore fanboy leanings with my current anti-establishment inclinations? I mean, it's great that stark removed all weapons programs after he was held hostage but, what about all those patents and the money made from third party sale of his ideas? Actually, when you think about it, Stark And Racer, have similar ideology when it comes to distribution of architecture. hopefully, the next iron man will be less scared of female empowerment. and a little more indicting of male techno-porn.

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Is Speed Racer Just Too Gay?]]> plus your site has like 50 BAJILLION iron man posts. if this so-called "male ego fantasy" post exists at least point me in the right direction.

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Is Speed Racer Just Too Gay?]]> really? wow. i guess i just have footinmouthitis.

<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Is Speed Racer Just Too Gay?]]> also, is there anyway I can edit entries? me no learn ruby good.

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Is Speed Racer Just Too Gay?]]> hey, that should be your next post Annalee: the "hidden" misogyny of Tony Stark and Pepper Pots as male secretarial ego fantasy! how about misogyny in super hero-dom as a whole! let's attack the whole Anti-Speed Racer fury at it's most white-male-hetero-power structure core!

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Is Speed Racer Just Too Gay?]]> you know, i realized after i posted it that I completely misinterpreted the connotation because she was actually mentioning things that seemed gay, and that's why people are avoiding it. while I think that she was grossly misstating and going with some pretty bold stereotypes she really didn't come close to being objectionable. foot meet mouth. mmmm. tasty foot.

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Is Speed Racer Just Too Gay?]]> @Dunny0: Do I parse my speech? guess I should have known MY comment would: Flame on!

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Is Speed Racer Just Too Gay?]]> Also, that movie F*in rocked! My friend greg and I were squealing with glee through out the whole thing! I think I get the whole "living anime thing" the Wachowski's love. Might get me to re-watch the Matrix sequels (both of which I stared long and hard at my ticket stub, wondering if I should get my money back.)

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Is Speed Racer Just Too Gay?]]> That term is way too loaded. Some people will not "get it" that she's being sarcastic. I don't like the word and it admittedly pushes my buttons when people use it as a negative descriptor.

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Is Speed Racer Just Too Gay?]]> Worst post title ever. You're just giving everyone free passes for homophobia, totally not cool.

<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Something For Everyone Who Likes Awesome In This Week's Comics]]> why a recession when so many great comics are coming out?

<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Sex And The Shitty]]> Also I love the term bobo, it makes the pandering neo-yuppies sound like what they are, which is monkeys.

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Sex And The Shitty]]> even if they are all "feminists" they're still cloying, rich, sad, manipulative and mean. I am a man. I've watched most of the show (not usually by my own choice) and just as Entourage shows the worst attributes of rich Hollywood men so too does Sex and the City show the most atrocious side of the "female psyche". Maybe the reason that it took them so long to find good men is that they are terrible human beings with no sense of morality.

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Cylon Deathfest on Battlestar Galactica]]> The whole "losing a leg" thing reminds me of the episode of DS9 "The Siege of Ar-558" Where Nog has to get the CHOPCHOP . I know I pretty much only talk about DS9 and star trek on here, well, because I'm obsessed with the show, but Ron Moore. DS9 Co-Exec Prod, Battlestar? cough. It's probably not connected but it does seem to be a good way to give good characters a little bit of extra pathos without devoting too much plot time to them.

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on See The Future Of Star Trek]]> I love star trek. So very very much. Heh, Cloverfield being cannon in the Star Trek Universe? That would be exquisite. The puny humans didn't realize that First Contact had happened earlier, they'd just killed it. I wonder if the tape is on file at Memory Alpha?

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on The Public Transit Projects that Should Have Been]]> @Freddie Freelance: pretty fucking high! haha. but yeah all of san diego proper would be pretty screwed. north county might even become the new "center" of the city. Do you know how big our city is going to get in the next fifty years? Chula Vista is still the fastest growing city in the state and we're going to be LA Light, really bloody soon. invest in a personal kayak. said city too many times.

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on A Giant Bag of "What the Hell" on Battlestar Galactica]]> Sometimes I really have to wonder if people are watching a different show than I am. Maybe I just love watching these characters break down further and further, but I loved the chain of events in tonights episode. If you didn't see the whole pain is pleasure/religious bat to the head coming, than I think you never got where this started heading two years ago. This has become a show about religious scripture. What is religion? How is it formed? What are the problems? How do you define tolerance? Is it necessary at all? Why do people turn to it? This was a great episode that dealt with religious fundamentalism. The faces of those women sold the whole damn thing for me. This show wasn't about the set dressings, or the main characters, this show was about those women witnessing this man realize he's a prophet (a self-proclaimed one or not) and their complete and utter cha-ching (buying it wholesale) that is going to rip the fleet apart, bit by bit. It's all going to get much worse before it gets better. Also I'm starting to believe that the Gods and GOD are going to have a very large conflict go down very soon. I'm not sure who will win. I'm thinking more and more that the Cylons may be the only survivors.

]]>
<![CDATA[Byronotron commented on Could Gaius Baltar Be . . . a Mormon?]]> I highly doubt that Ron Moore or David Eick would have found it necessary to include such specific religious overtones. Religious overtones are a part of the show, but to emphasize such a SMALL religion in comparison with the religions that have spanned the earth for so long, would be silly. Glen A. Larson had aliens, talking cars, and Boxey. RM and DE have skinjobs and New Caprica. The two series really couldn't be any more tonally different. I think they are using allegories for religious leaders who begin to believe they are gods or prophets or the messiah and a better comparison to an actual specific person would be someone like Jim Jones , an ego maniacal genius capable of manipulating people into doing his will. I mean, I'm not religious but anyone can see that Jesus was not Gaius Baltar and vice versa, Jesus a least in his time, was probably a pretty decent hippie type. I think Joseph Smith probably is more honorable than this guy, and he started a fucking war. Like a lot of shows I think this is a Rorschach test of religion. Which is good, but this guy isn't going to be innocently dying for anyone's sins anytime soon. If he's dying at all, for anything, you'd damned be sure it's going to be to feed his own ego. That's all.
