<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Entertainment Industry: Please Stop Pandering To My Generation!]]> @lukeoneil47: I can remember loading a space invaders style game on my old Trash-80 using a tape drive that literally took 20 minutes to load....and when text based games like ZORK were cool fantasy games....now its all Age of Conan boobies, WoW seasonal gear and Uber-Force games....but hey its all good.

<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on I Got Them Alien-Possessed Trucks Taking Over The Planet Blues]]> @Gilese: The one scene I seem to remember fondly is a soda can vending machine that starts killing people by ejecting high velocity cans of soda.

<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Doctor Who's Midlife Metacrisis]]> As someone who remembers the old Davros and Sarah Jane/Tom Baker years and loves Torchwood, I did not mind all the fan service.

I do agree that Rose was a bit of a limp noodle this season and her presence unfairly overshadowed Donna's big finale.

I am seriously hoping they somehow go back and revisit Donna's character because ending up as she did (back at square one) seriously ticked me off. I was hoping for at least a Doctor's Daughter type ending where she recovers (don't much care how).

Looking at the potential Tochwood lineup with Ianto, Gwen, Mickey and Martha, I am still undecided on how this will play...(needs more Owen me thinks).

]]>
<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Before Abrams, The End Of The Star Trek Experience]]> That's really too bad. It was one place I looked forward to going to during my summer study programs at UNLV. Been there twice before and always hoped to go during a Trek convention (I bet that place would have been packed).

I do have to admit though, that the times I did go, there were very few people waiting. And not being closer to the strip was likely also a disadvantage to get the casual tourist to go there.

]]>
<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Eight Toys You Can't Leave Comic-Con Without]]> OH to be young and rich...well mostly just rich. I miss conventions.

]]>
<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Doctor Who's Russell T. Davies Is The Gay Michael Bay]]> I enjoyed the episode if only just to see a bit more Torchwood (post season 2).

Rambo Rose seems to be acting out of character this season and my biggest questions is where is Mickey during all of this, since I don't think he would be letter her run off on her own without going with her.

I am also wondering if the Bad Wolf thing means she is somehow still connected to the Tardis (she seems much smarter about technology and time travel and such things from when we left her in season 2.

Wondering now if Donna has some connection to Romana or of the possibility that this whole thing is still a bug dream (that she never really woke up from the last episode, she only imagined she did).

]]>
<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Which Alternate Universe Has The Best Science Fiction?]]> I don't really see how China taking over Hong Kong and leading to a (minor) exodus of directors and stars to Hollywood has anything has much to do with an altered sci-fi landscape. Unless you are counting Jackie Chan's The Tuxedo as Sci-fi (which I don't) or Jet Li's The One (which I don't want to) ;P

Of course we may get to see Hong Kong transplant Edison Chen in The Dark Knight, but for anyone who is up on Hong Kong news, then you have likely seen far too much of him already. ;)

]]>
<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on When Therapy Goes Bad]]> Oh this movie takes me back...it reminds me of another film that came out the same year I think called 'Prophecy' about mutant bears (not to be confused with Christopher Walken's 'The Prophecy' trilogy).

I remember being freaked out by both films at the time and retreating back into the re-releases of Star Wars later that year. ;)

]]>
<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Gears Of War Movie Brings Life To Alien Subculture]]> One of the reasons I think film adaptions of games don't work is that iconic characters for some of these newer titles now have voices associated with them.

In GoW for example John Dimaggio does the voice for Marcus Fenix, but he would never really be able to physically play the role...and likely someone who looks the part may not sound the part, etc.

It would be like trying to do a live action Simpsons...it would be like building the franchise from scratch and many fans would not like it because of that change.

]]>
<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Battlestar Galactica Goes Planet of the Apes]]> I know I am in the minority, but I did not like the episode all that much. It felt overly rushed in the pacing to get us to those last 2 minutes of re-entry and touchdown reaction shots.

Perhaps I only felt that way because of the overall slow pacing of this season in general.

I also felt the ending was too Planet of the Apes-esq for my liking, but it does beat a 1980s earth and ties in with the "it's all happened before" theme of the show. For a moment I was wondering if they were lost and ended up on old Caprica.

The main thing that irks me is them calling this a 'mid-season' finale while we have to wait a year. Just call next season 'Season 5'.

<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Doctor Who And The Dumb Girls Who Are Dumb OK]]> I liked the fact that we are seeing a doctor who does not even realize his own potential and we get to see that there are things even he doesn't understand.

<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on What If Star Wars Had Starred Michael Jackson?]]> I remember seeing this at Epcot years ago. It was kind of 3.5D and was way before many of the 4D rides that now grace theme parks across the land.

Am I wrong in thinking that this has never been released on any of his DVD collections? (I assume it is still a Disney property).

<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on If Only Indiana Jones 4 Had Been As Thrilling As Its Concept Art]]> @Rusty626: I liked it too for the most part.

Spoilers:

I did not have a problem with the ending in the spaceship. She asked for a wish (as a reward) and it was granted...unfortunately for her she couldn't handle it with her puny human brain. Indy even warned her about being careful what you wish for....

I did not like the ending shot however with Shia just standing in there combing his hair while credits roll....I felt it was a weak way to exit the narrative.

<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Welcome To The Summer Of White Guilt]]> @moff: I always thought that was something people used at the horse track....

But unseriously, if Bruce Banner kills people as the Hulk does he then have green guilt?

]]>
<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Doctor Who Gives A Glimpse Of Its Own Future]]> I dunno, I found this episode just another big pile of 'meh'. It has a very strong 'The Neverending Story' type of vibe going on with the kid and the darkness and all...I hope there is more of a payoff in the second part.

I am intrigued about River Song a bit, but I found the Doctor's reactions to her a bit odd. (like his reaction to her Sonic Gun...which was quite different from the reaction to the same gun Captain Jack had.) Also I hope this is not a diversion from his past (Time War). Now we have a big mystery in both directions. Let's clear one up a bit more before starting down another road.

@Chuck Lawson: Agreed, Coupling was a great show and I think a combination would work nicely, but much will depend on who the new Doctor is. For me Coupling wasn't the same after Jeff (Richard Coyle) left.

<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Don't Let Tobey Ruin Another Spider-Man]]> @Macloserboy: I agree, I was dissapointed when I heard they were recasting for another trilogy. Personally I prefer Tobey above any of those actors above.

As to the rumors of the Lizard, I hope so as he was the first villian of the first Spidey comic I ever read, so I have a fondness for him as enemies go. That being said, I am not sure he would make for a very dynamic villian after the last threesome of Spidey 3. But maybe another 3 way of classics, like Lizard, Electro and Vulture.

<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Will Milla Jovovich Pee On Shia LaBoeuf's Head?]]> "...cast as the first female transformer in Transformer 2."

<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Death In The Shadow Of The Mind-Control Towers]]> Is that Peter Frampton as the protagonist??? ;)

<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Back To The Future Saved From Indiana Jones' Mistake]]> @vintershaype: I payed money for it as well. It wasn't the best movie ever, but I enjoyed it. So did the three others I saw it with. And just because 'you' did not like it, does not make it crap.

@ngallion: That is true. What this tells me though, is that people wanted to see it depsite the mixed reviews it was getting. But I guess the real point of decision as to if people really like it or not will be the DVD revenue when that comes around.

]]>
<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Back To The Future Saved From Indiana Jones' Mistake]]> ...Saved From Indiana Jones' Mistake.

<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Cool and Crap Awards of the Week]]> @Beachcoma: Yeah, I was wondering that too....I mean we know from the Young Idy series that Indy lives to be really OLD (which I always atributed to the Grail).

@robbie158: Seconded, I was hoping Sallah might show up at some point....and was really hoping for Short Round too...but despite both Ark and Crusade references, they seem to want to disown Temple of Doom.

<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on What Scifi Plot Should Indiana Jones Steal Next?]]> Indiana Jones and the Replicants!

]]>
<![CDATA[Cantonkid commented on Indiana Jones Delivers the Best X-Files Movie of Summer]]> Saw it last night. I enjoyed it. Some of the actions scenes were a bit 'tired', but I felt it was still better than Temple of Doom (still my least favorite).

Having just re-watched all 3 films earlier this week, I was glad that this story did have a sci-fi twist to break away from the 'religious/magic' angle of the last 3 films. I liked the references (like Atomic Cafe) and the bit of fan service they put in for people who watched the Young Indy TV series.

The thing that really seemed odd was the very end, the camera just hangs there for a while and credits roll...seemed like they really did not have a solid way to go out.
