Phrases like this say everything that needs to be said about the level of this discussion. Peace man, enjoy your (or your countries or whoever actually has power over your military of choice) military superiority. Hope it gives you warm feelings at night.
My point here is that Argentina is not being bellicose (is this a word?) this time areoun. There is cero chance of military conflict no matter how the media, including this article, try to portrait. Last time Argentina was under a dictatorship (as many countries in Latin America thanks to some nasty international backing of such regimes) and things have change a lot.
All this talk around what the islanders want, if they islands are british or not is just a smokescreen on both sides and it would easily dissapear if the UN was heard. I do call out my government on it, but I also do on Cameron and would like for people to do so as well.
Chest thumping and warmongering on either side is moronic at this point, even more so than was in the past.
Argentina has threaten no such thing as to block flights or start an economical blockade to the islands, not in the vein of what that seems to imply. Since the islands are disputed and the dispute was brought to the UN, England has refused over 40 UN resolutions to sit down and talk it through.
Argentina has refused to accept ships with Falkland flags in its ports, which sounds reasonable, and so do the Mercosur countries, which sounds reasonable as well and its trying to maneuver the region politically to isolate the islands (including the Chile thing). This is all valid and non violent, nobody here has any mind to militarize the conflict and this fringe element the article speaks off is news to me (and I live in the capital). I'm sure they exists, but crazies be crazies anywhere.
On the other hand England has sent a new warship to the islands, sends the prince on the 30th anniversary and still refuses to talk things through in the UN.
I repeat once again, yes this is all political pandering to distract from economic woes on both sides. But the fact remains that Argentina is trying to get this talked through the UN and England is the one that seems more interested in framing it as a possible armed conflict this time.
Thanks for reading.
