I have to agree somewhat with this post, the x-ray diffraction studies were most definitely Franklin's - Accepted history does not argue this fact. But it was Watson and Cricks conceptual leap [and the model building] that recognized the structure that fit the data was an antiparallel-double helix and also that it inherently suggested a method of replication. This was ground breaking, outside of the box, thinking in molecular genetics that has shaped the last 40 years of research ---That is why they both earned, and deserved, a Noble prize. Franklin’s definite contributions are recognized, but they are only part of a greater discovery.
This isn't so much a crack at lack of peer review as a slam on the way some "science" is presented to the public these days. Walkin' with the historical beastie o' your choice. They always say "a scientist believes.." but what does that mean? They never say [nor examine] "the scientific consensus is..."
Plus it's just a clever ad
I rememer an experiment they did years ago where they sealed food in a jar and an octupus was smart enough to figure out how to unscrew the lid to get inside. Seems smarter than the average mullosk
@nutmeag: He said that awhile ago, before the series was cancelled, probably allow the story to unfold differently in the series future. I bet that now the end is nigh, the show is going to barrel right down that road.
@danataf2: I think you're probably referring to the Firefly episode "The Train Job" and not the actual pilot that was shot and never aired until the end of the series. I didn't like that ep much myself as a pilot, but if you rent/borrow/buy the DVDs and see the real pilot first your opinion might change. Fox actually didn't like the Firefly pilot and made Joss come up with something else for the premiere. That ep was written by Whedon and [Minear?] in a single weekend to please the network as an intro to the show.
Ain't Fox great and all-knowing?
@ElimGarak: Wasn't there some mention earlier on in this season about these shapeshifters being different in some fundamental way that allowed them to cross-over? I may be remembering this wrong.
I guess the use of the "existing" technology results in bad endings - like David Robert Jones. Evidentially, the tech Walter invented is much safer.
@GreyHammer: I know he's a producer on Supernatural. Saw an interview with him in regards to that [i.e. pre-terminator], and he came across as a Hollywood D-bag in that as well
@Ghost_in_the_Machine: You're correct. Esp. before cable they showed 25+ new eps a year [about 1/2 a year] then ran reruns and special seasonal programming to fill the year. I've said this before, I think most of these programs would retain more viewership [and even potentially add new viewers], if they at least showed some reruns during these long breaks. And Fox does this with thier high performers - there is a House or Bones ep nearly every week of the year.
My cheese-o-meter has gone all wonky and red-light blinky. It hasn't pegged like this since the last Robert L Lippert extravaganza I endured. This film is definitely going onto my "must purchase from the Big Lots $3 bargin bin" list'.
@acrobatic rabbit: Kind of makes you wonder what a juvenile observer was doing on this side in such an inaccessable underground place. Couldn't have been there on purpose
reassortant, not reassortment. Influenza virus has a multipartite genome and progeny that contain genome segements from two different parental strains are defined as "Reassortants" #swineflu
@neorandomizer: I think the studio had a major hand in the suck on that. Gibson actually said he'd never work with Hollywood again. I guess things change. Hopefully Gibson is in because he has more faith in this project #neuromancer
I wonder if a cable outlet, like SyFy, could support a pickup of some of these kinds of shows in a more limited way (assumming it's been offered). Look how well that 5 day run of Torchwoods' "Children of Earth" did. I'd personally rather see a [hopefully reoccuring) series of miniseries to nothing at all. Maybe 2 -2hr eps once a year, shown back-to-back (and fully available at your favorites DVD outlet). This has to be cheaper than a full season, and hey, why not? They just put out a BSG TV movie after that series ended.
BTW, how much does a regular ep of BSG cost compared to Dollhouse or T:SCC? The difference couldn't be that overwhelming. #dollhouse
Has it ever been officially announced that SupNat is ending afer 5? I know Kripke said that's all he intended to do, but I've also heard the cast signed contracts that go a year longer. But maybe this is just the way it's done in TVland? #supernatural
