You're totally right and I don't say I wouldn't enjoy this but I doubt it is what most consumers are expecting from a Zelda or even a Nintendo published game at this point.
Besides I bet you Dark Souls 2 will have a save anywhere feature. :)

Can't say I agree with everything but I do see your points and you are bang on the fact that the franchise is crumbling under the weight of its mechanics.
I'm not sure if making a tough as nails zelda would make it better however. Maybe for you but I doubt it would sell as many copies or even get a sequel after that. At the end of the day a series must do the necessary fan service to be successful, I'm fairly sure even Zelda's director said so himself.
It is a common issue with most sequels and not related to the Zelda franchise itself.

Well, I really enjoyed it but then again I didn't buy it. At least it had a somewhat coherent story unlike Uncharted 3 and some good additions to the cast. It seems to me that the team was working on higher specs (is the Vita processor underclocked like the PSP was at launch?), then they had to lower the resolution and upscale the game to keep the framerate up, which would be my main complaint.
Also, if this isn't a prequel then the hair colour of someone I won't mention by name is wrong.

Maybe they are testing the waters to see if this is a viable option to get fundings for the next Psychonauts? I did mention the same thing in the Psychonauts topic of yesterday so I feel good about having the same train of thought as someone as awesome as Schafer.
Maybe they can start taking pre-orders to gauge how many people are interested in this and kick start the funding.
