Here are a few thoughts I have about Fringe
1) I don't think they are going to try infinite realities, that would probably be just be too much to deal with from a writing and viewing standpoint. I think they are going to go with just two earths.
2) The alternate universe concept, although it is an interesting idea, has some major conceptual problems. For example, assuming the alternate earths form and evolve in similar ways over billions of years, they would not be the exact same thing. The slightest changes millenia ago would have profound impact on the development of the future, and so the world would not evolve to have the same people in each one. For example, we saw that the World Trade Center buildings were still up in alternate earth (Earth1). In our world (Earth prime), all of the people in there died. Assuming the alternate people in Earth1 continued living and had children after that, there would now be people in Earth1 that do not have a corresponding person in Earth Prime. Now, assume something like that happened thousands of years ago, and these extra people continue having children, that means there are going to be millions of people that exist in Earth1 that do not exist in Earth Prime. Perhaps they are going to try to write around that with some sort of "if it dies in one it dies in the other", but then how would they explain Peter, because he clearly died in Earth Prime and Walter took the Peter from Earth1.
3) I hope they do more with Lance Reddick, because at this point he's just the typical superior officer. If anyone has seen The Wire, you know that his talent is being wasted. There are instances where it seems he might know more than he is letting on, but they haven't really developed that yet.
4) Assuming all the weird events are caused by William Bell / ZFT or just ZFT (if they are unrelated), it sort of does away with the wow factor because we know what is causing everything. The show would just become "what is ZFT doing this week" which is a very limited show. If it just turns into a war of alternate universes, I don't think that is going to work long term either.
5) I didn't quite get a good look at the newspaper on the desk, but I thought it said Obama moves into new white house. I assume this means the White House was destroyed and rebuilt. Perhaps that was Earth1's version of 9/11. Sort of back to the alternate universe issue again, but if there was no 9/11, Bush would not have gone to war in Iraq, and Obama would probably not be president. Bush also might not have won a 2nd term because he only got reelected due to the "don't change horses midstream" mentality. So, someone else would have been in there for his second term, and it would not have been Obama because Obama was a nobody in 2004, he was just running for Senate at that point. So, in Earth1 it was very unlikely Obama would have been President. (Sorry for the political analysis)
