Fukushima was one of the most modern, safest existing reactors. You can never be 100% safe - but when you apply potentially dangerous technology like nuclear reactors in everyday life, a failiure, how improbable it may be, can have desastrous consquences.
Failing wind turbines or solar panels simply don't kill people.
The only question is what will happen first - running out of Uranium or having a major accident like Fukushima. Future technology, indeed.
